Free Play

We all set up for park time after having snacks but unfortunately, the rain started to pour while we are on our way. We headed back to school after a five-minute walk and our teachers gave us wooden trains for us to play with. Everyone worked together in making a large scale railway system! Seems like we’re slowly getting the concepts of camaraderie and teamwork through the featured group sports in our Ohana Olympics.

Ruth Galloway’s “Smiley Shark” was read to us. Just like the Smiley Shark, we aim to be a helping hand to our friends and to our community.

Tearing and Twisting

Our open ended field that has been a basketball court now looks more of a soccer field because of the strips of green paper that we added to it. Using our fingers, we teared and ripped strips of it to help improve our eye-hand coordination. Some of us crumpled and twisted the paper until it became soft enough for us easily rip. We also found out that if we tear the paper up too fast, the tear does not make a straight line but goes diagonally. So, we have to be mindful of how we tore so we don’t end up with uneven grass!

Ice Sensory Play

We certainly enjoyed playing our colored ice sensory play during while looking at the beach and waves that was projected to the wall. The entire inner part of the room was in the color blue! Some of ran away when big waves started to crash in… it really looked like the waves were chasing us. It was also interesting to see surfers from underwater… we sometimes thought that it was a shark coming but nope, it’s just a surfboard.

Aside from watching the surfers and waves, we were also given tubs with big blocks of blue colored ice and sea creatures toys! Our favorite was the shark! It was a wonderful sensorial experience for us… our ears listened to the crashing waves, our eyes widened in the brightness of the screen while in a dim room, and our hands tickled with the coolness of the cold ice. We also learned new words such as “waves crashing” and “slippery”.

With the shark being our favorite toy amongst the sea creatures, we did a shadow play using it! We sang to “Baby Shark” while pretending that the toy shark was swimming along with the surfers.

Surfing Practice

It was another fun experience surfing together. This time, the balance beams were formed to resemble the rays of the sun. We went around it, going up and down the beams. Just like the waves that goes higher, we stacked the balance beams and went on top of it! We were quite nervous when we were up on the tall stack but our teachers were there to gives us a hand to help us keep balance.

Stay safe and dry!

Love,
