Training Day
Petals Journal 7/1
“Rain Rain Go Away!” Today is the perfect day to sing this song. We knew that we would stay inside today. “No park. Rainy!” We said to our teacher and they nodded their heads. “Car ok? I want to play cars...please?” Au asked our teachers and they said ok! On the table we had puzzles. Mi, M, and N stayed and played with it for a little while. Ri, L, Hi, and Sa were chatting and choosing toys to play with. “Play?” “This one?” “No.” “This one?” “Ok!” After we cleaned up our toys, Sayaka played one of our favorite songs. We listened carefully to the song….One of us said, “Baby shark!” The song always makes us smile and move around. We enjoyed singing and moving around.
We all sat down and had a short discussion about masks. “The reason why we all need masks on is not to get sick.” Sayaka started explaining by saying this. Some of us are still getting used to wearing masks. Wearing masks helps us to stay healthy and happy, Sayaka added. “Who wants to get sick?” “Nooo!” We shouted out. “I don’t like it.” Au said. “I don’t want you to get sick.” Sayaka also said.
After we finished our snack time, Kai read the book for us and it was Rain, Rain, Rain Forest by BRENDA Z. GUIBERSON illustrated by STEVE JENKINS. It was the perfect book for today. It was a very interesting book. Especially we liked the picture, it looked like paper collage pictures. We wonder what the real forest looks like…. There were lots of different rainforest animals. There were sloths, poisonous arrow head frogs, howler monkeys, boas, and more!
After that we gathered in a circle to have a short but fun activity. Sayaka asked us to run side to side. Some of us almost bumped into each other. Then she reminded us to use our eyes carefully. We needed to look at where we were going to run. When we saw someone is running in front of us, we should stop or change direction to run. “Ok. Let’s try one more time!” When we ran carefully, we didn’t bump into anybody and enjoyed ourselves more. Today’s circle time was...the training day like an athlete. We’ve been learning about sports, Olympics, and athletes. Sayaka started talking about why the athletes are strong. “I’m strong!” Au showed his muscles to her. “Me, too!” We showed “our strong pose” Sayaka mentioned that Athletes train hard to prepare for the game or performance. “Me too. Az sooo strong!” Az said to her. “Ok! Let’s work out like athletes.” she said and showed the colorful dice. She explained what we will do. One of us rolled the dice. The color on the dice told us which one to do. Red-Touch Toes. Yellow-Hop on one foot. Orange-20 Jumping Jacks (We just did 10!) Purple- 10 Push-Ups. Green-Run in Place. Blue-15 Sit-Ups. Ok, let’s get started! At first, we thought it was just fun but then it’s getting harder and harder. We were getting tired and we felt that we had no more energy! “Tired!” we said to Sayaka and she said, “Me too!” We had a short and calm yoga session just before lunch time. It was fun and a nice “Training day”
