Teamwork!
We would like to welcome our new friend, Ju who joined us for the first time today. When she first came, we told her, “Good morning, Vi! We’re happy to see you!”. Then, she said, “But I’m not Vi. That’s my sister!”. From that moment on, we enjoyed playing and chatting with her! It felt like we got a big sister in Flowers! Let’s enjoy Ohana-lympics together!
Our terrific Tuesday started off with creating castles and towers with blocks and making our own soccer shirt. We enjoyed making things with our friends and have been working on cooperating to create something. It was wonderful to see our older children helping the younger ones to build things. We have been hearing a lot of “thank you” and “help, please”. That seemed to be like teamwork as well! For our craft, we carefully cut along the lines before decorating our soccer shirts. Without even looking at a picture, we knew that there should be a number on the shirt. Some of us decorated our shirts that would make them look like the ones that we have. Some made them into something that they like. Please look forward to seeing how our soccer shirts look like!
Talking about soccer, our question of the day was, “Do you know the rules in a soccer game?” Our friends who answered yes were so helpful in sharing what they know about soccer.
Ad: No cheating.
Ak: No hands.
Vieda: Who can use their hands in soccer?
K: Only the goalkeeper.
Li: The goalkeeper blocks the people trying to kick the ball into the goal.
Vieda: How many players does each soccer team have?
Za: 25 R: 25
Ad: 10 Ju: 10
Ky: 100 Da: 5
Ke: 50 Ch: 28
And the answer is…. 10 players plus 1 goalkeeper, which means there are 11! Ak mentioned that their soccer team have 2 goalkeepers.
As we have been talking about sports, Ke noticed that Da was wearing a sport shirt. When we mentioned it, Da said, “Ball and rocket. This is my favorite. Mama get. Ya! Soccer!”. After that, Ke pointed our attention to his shirt and said, “I have a hockey shirt”. Hockey was quite unfamiliar to us. We are lucky that Ke talked about hockey.
Ke: You need a stick and skates. And in hockey, players put the black circle inside the net. If you put the circle inside the net, you win! The hockey ball is not a ball. It’s not 3D.
Thank you for sharing! It is always great to know more sports and how they are played.
A big thanks to Za for checking the weather for us. She said, “It’s raining outside.”
Da: We cannot play outside.
Ak: Even we go out with our umbrella, still we cannot do it. The umbrella float in the sky.
Ju: The wind makes the umbrella float and when it stops, the umbrella comes down.
Vieda: So, can we go out to the park on a rainy day?
Ak: No, because it’s slippery, the floor.
R: I have a raincoat.
So, rainy day means no park time! No problem because we were set to have our Ohana-lympics in Flowers.
OHANA-LYMPICS!
Our games involved teamwork that made the games more thrilling! Our hearts were pumping when Vieda made the announcement, “Here are the athletes who are qualified to play in the Ohana-lympics.” We felt relieved to hear all the names of our friends in Flowers were “qualified” to play!
Ak: Qualified means you can play.
Ad: If you are disqualified, it means you lose the game.
Before we moved on to our team-building games, we all held our hands and said, “Hip, hip, hooray! TEAMWORK!”.
GAME 1: Hula Hoop Pass
We held hands in a circle and tried to pass the hoop around without letting go of our friends’ hands. We bent, stepped over, and helped each other out by telling our friends what to do. It was a little challenging at first but for sure, this activity helped us to collaborate with our friends to come up with “solutions” to pass the hoop.
GAME 2 : Ball Relay
This was not the typical ball relay. We had the relay with our feet! It was a little hard to pass the pass the ball with our feet, but we made it! Yay! Bravo, Flowers!
GAME 3: Parachute Dance
We really enjoyed our parachute activity yesterday. We got excited that we got the chance to do another parachute activity again. And this time, it was matched with our favorite activity --- dancing! We worked together to do some movements such camping (staying under the parachute), lifting it up, holding it with just one hand while walking and a lot more with a background music. Please remember to check out our video😊
GAME 4: Hockey
Our lucky last game was hockey with the “discs” (lids) that we decorated yesterday. We played in singles and doubles. We tried to use our strength to slide our disc down to the goal. We had so much fun!
We hope that your day was as terrific as ours! See you all again tomorrow!
Love,
Flowers XOXO
