The "Flashlight" Olympics

Us, preparing for our “Flashlight” Olympics and reviewing all the different shapes

You might be wondering if this was a new event that the Olympics committee created. Well, it was something that we created— for our Petals Class Olympics!

“Do you remember what’s this picture?” Pauline said while pointing to the picture of the 5 Olympic rings.

“Olympics!” O replied.

“Yes, that’s right!” Pauline agreed. “What shapes are these?” she asked.

“Circle!” everyone said.

“That’s right,” Pauline said. “Just like the balls we played with yesterday with Sayaka! What shape are the balls?” she asked us.

“Circle!” K said.

“But do you also know we have a lot of other shapes!” Pauline told us. “Just like…..” She proceeded to get a box from where she pulled out some cards. It had pictures of different shapes like—

“What shape is this?” she asked.

“Circle!” We all said.

“Circle is money!” K said.

“I have like this at home,” A shared.

“Me, too. I have this at home,” A said.

The next shape Pauline showed us was a—

“Heart!” We all said. Then we had a—

“Star!”

“Twinkle twinkle little star!” R started to sing, and everyone joined in on the singing. Next was a—

“Square!” E said.

“It’s a picture of a dog!” Sana pointed out. She’s right– it was a picture of a dog in a square-shaped frame.

The next shape was a—

“Triangle!” O said. We reviewed them all together— circle, heart, star, square, and triangle. Some of our friends got confused with square and triangle, so Pauline said, if it has 3 pointy ends and if it looks like a mountain, it’s a triangle. We then tried to make the shapes using our fingers. It was a good exercise for our finger and hand muscles!

After that, Pauline told us to wait for a little bit while she stuck the cards on the wall and then she— oops! She turned off the lights! What’s going on?

“Welcome to the ‘Flashlight’ Olympics!” Pauline announced in a booming voice. She told us that for our games today, she would call out a shape, and then we would look for it with the flashlight. We used the flashlight on Pauline’s phone.

Let the games begin! A volunteered to go first, and he had to go look for the heart shape. He quickly found it with his flashlight! We all had a turn to look for the shapes— it was just like a treasure hunt!

After that, we were so excited to go to the park! Our teachers said we can bring our balls and practice kicking the ball and play soccer, just like what we did with Sayaka yesterday. Off we marched to Step Park!

When we got to Step Park, we were surprised that there were a lot of people there….. And there was no space for us at the green area! Oh no….. We felt a little bit disappointed. The teachers apologized to us and said that we will try again next week, then maybe we can have the chance to play in the green area. We just took a walk around then came back to school.

In the morning, our free play time was also quite busy. Today, we took out our animal toys. We also had our dinosaurs and the 3D magnetic puzzles. Some of us requested if we can draw, so they drew at the table. They also enjoyed the torch–making activity with Sayaka, so some of us requested some glue sticks and we used them on scrap paper and stuck some leftover colored tissue paper.

That’s all for today— Whew! What a week! We wonder what’s in store for us next week as we continue on with our Olympics?

How about you? How was your day?

Love,

All the happy bunnies in Petals Class
