The Olympic Torch
Good morning everyone! It’s another lovely day in Flowers Class! Even though it’s cloudy and rainy outside, it’s sunshine and rainbows inside! We started our morning playing with Knex. Our friends have really taking a liking into them and our teachers like them too, because they allow our creativity to run wild and they are a great workout for our fine motor skills! We finished up our torch craft because we were going to use them for an activity later today. We packed away all of our things and we gathered into a circle to sing a few songs. We started off singing the “Good Morning” song to introduce ourselves to the class. It’s also a great way for our new friends to learn everyone else’s names. We also sang the “Ohana School” song due to popular request. Our new friends didn’t know the words to the song, but it seemed like they enjoyed the melody as they swayed their body and clapped to the beat. After our short singing time we went and had our snacks.
We gathered up and began our circle time with our Question of the Day, “Have you seen any Olympic games?”. Z volunteered to read what was on the board. She pointed at the red circle and said, “This is “No”.”, and then pointed at the blue circle, “This is “Yes””. B volunteered to read our question, with a little help from her teacher, she was able to read it for the class. We did some math to figure out the total of Yes and No, and to find out how many friends still needed to do the question of the day.
A: It’s on television, in Okinawa. The game one was in Okinawa and then it came to Tokyo on television.
L: I see it too. The people talking about swimming and who was winning. You can see the numbers in the water too.
N: I see the circle Olympic (pointed at our Olympic Circle craft).
Nimo: What do you think is an “Olympic Game”?
Z: Olympic game is you hop on something, then you hop on to the shapes, then you run away. Then you march, march, march, but when the wolf comes you need to run to the shapes, just like the game we played yesterday.
A: A hotdog eating challenge. The one who finishes his hotdogs first is the winner. They need to eat a billion hotdogs.
L: A pizza eating challenge. If you eat lots of pizzas, you win.
K: A banana contest. You have to eat 400 million bananas.
Z: A banana contest, but you only need to eat three bananas.
We then took a look at a paper with all the sports of the Olympics on it.
A: This is the bicycle fire challenge. You have to loop around the fire.
Z: Rowing boat!
K: This, Pro Wrestling!
B: I know this, it’s Tennis. I play tennis at school. I hit the ball with a racket.
A: This is basketball. I have this ball and I throw it in the goal. The ball is the same as Zayna’s face.
N: Horse Riding.
L: I know, the person says, “Hee haw”!
A: It’s a cowboy.
K: This is swimming
K: This picture is exercising (Weightlifting).
L: My daddy has this in his office.
A: I can swim because I go to swimming school.
There are several reasons why the Olympics are so special.
A: The Olympic rings are continents, and colors are flags.
B: Every four years.
We learned that the torch run starts in Greece, then it comes to Tokyo. We did our own Olympic torch run in Flowers! Our teachers set up an obstacle course inside the classroom and we had to navigate through the course and pass on the flame to our friend, then they would start running. Once everyone made it through the course, the last one would light the cauldron for a very big flame. We did two relay runs, the first run took 7 minutes and 32 seconds. Our second run was an amazing 5 minutes and 5 seconds! Way to go Flowers team! We finished our day playing the Mr. Wolf game we played yesterday!
We had another lovely day in Flowers! Hope everyone has a lovely evening and we will see you all again tomorrow!
Love,
Flowers
