Birthday Party!
Free Play
We spent the morning busy making our amazing art for the end-of-the-year museum. There have been lots of painting, gluing, and cutting. While our friends were busy being artists the rest of us were playing with wooden trains that we borrowed from Flowers Class. This morning we had to pack away earlier to get ready for a birthday party.
Birthday Party
We started off the party by welcoming Alexander, Utano and Sana’s parents. Then we asked the birthday celebrants to come to the special table. It’s their birthday but they don’t look like birthday celebrants yet. Something is missing… what is it? “Birthday hat!” Simen shouted out. Yes, they need to have a birthday hat in order to celebrate! We took turns giving the birthday hat to our friends and gave them elbow bumps or hugs. Next, we sang “If You’re Happy and You Know It.” because that’s how we feel when it’s our birthday! We took turns saying what actions we wanted to do. We clapped a lot, shook our bodies and shouted HAPPY BIRHTDAY! Before we could move on, the birthday celebrants are still missing something. “A chocolate cake!” Zayna shouted. Yes, we need to give a cake! But unfortunately, we don’t have a real cake because of COVID but we have three “cup cakes” made from paper cups. The celebrants took turns blowing out the candle one by one. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! There’s one last thing they need to receive. It’s a card! After giving the card ,the parents wanted to do something with us. Alexander’s mom Tine, read us one of Alexander’s favorite books. It was a Danish book about a hedgehog and the changing of the seasons. He loves to watch the sunrise in the spring, go to the river in the summer, pick mushrooms in the fall and sleigh in the winter. It was an amazing book about the season and nature. Thank you, Tine for reading to us! After the book It was time to move our bodies! We danced to YMCA and Kung Fu Fighting. It was fun trying to do some punches and kicks. Of course one of our friends said that kicking is not for our friends. At the end of the party, the parents gave us a goody bag for us to take home with us. Thank you so much for coming, Ai, Chisato, Tine and Ditlev!
Park
Right after the birthday celebration, we heard a loud noise coming from the speaker. It was the earthquake alarm! We quickly got under the table until the teachers said it has stopped shaking before we got out from under the table. Then we got our helmets on and walked downstairs one by one. We were very careful to listen to the teachers’ instructions this time and knew it was an earthquake drill and not a fire drill.
Before we went to the park, Kai read a quick story—it was called The Problem with Problems. The book looked at the problems like monsters. It comes in all kinds of different forms but they shouldn’t bother us too much as there are many ways to deal with and handle the problems. Some ways we can deal with problems are to ignore them, to name the problem, to sleep on it and sometimes if it’s a big problem we need to tell people to get help. We could all use some help to get rid of our problems!
At the park we were very lucky to be able to play with Buds Class and then Flowers Class! It’s great seeing our friends and siblings.
We hope you’ve had a wonderful day! See you Monday!
XOXO,
