Carnival Construction

Carnival Themed Free Play

To prepare us for our upcoming culminating carnival event, the toys that were available this morning were ones that can be usually seen in a carnival.

Wooden animal toys, colored translucent Lego blocks, a variety of drums… add some imaginative creativity and we were able to make a little pretend carnival play. The wooden animals marched along the beat of the drums played by some of our friends. With Moko Sensei, we were able to make some catchy beats on the drum.

The Lego blocks served as colorful towers. Some of our friends decided to use the railway for the animals to parade on. Instead of going through the play huts, it was carried around the room to showcase how “strong” we are… like some of those body builders who carry heavy objects in the carnival!

Colored Dye and Coffee Filters

If some of us came home with colored hands… it’s because of this activity! :) Using a pipette to suck in and make colored droplets on the filters was an astonishing sight to see. “Wow!” was heard each time we squeezed the top of the pipette to create little colored droplets on the filter. And of course, it’s definitely more fun when we get our hands “messy”  by soaking it in the diluted dye and making prints on the filters.

Bunting Making

We continued doing yesterday’s bunting making activity. Instead of using clothes pin, we worked on taping the paper triangles on the string. With the guidance of John, we identified if the strips of tape that we got were either too short or too long. Aside from learning about length, we also learned how to be cautious when using the tape dispenser. The table where we worked on looked really lively with the buntings hanging around it!

CIRCLE TIME

To start our circle Time, we greeted Papa the Butterfly and Mama the Dragon a hearty “Good Morning !” and  enthusiastically waved at them. But wait, why was Erika’s hand s so colorful…? And then whoops, some of our friends’ hands too were colorful! With the colors red, yellow, green, and blue on our palms, we placed our thumbs side by side and pretended that our hands were like the beautiful butterfly in Eric Carle’s “The Very Hungry Caterpillar”. Since Papa the Butterfly have eaten all the nectar from the flowers from our Buds Sakura Tree, our little butterfly hands feasted on the branches and leaves from our little forest. The foam net with looped fuzzy wires were taped on the

Aside from butterflies fluttering around during Spring Time, we learned that buzzing bees also fly around  during this season.  We listened to Eric Carle’s “The Honeybee and the Robber” and saw a very familiar character towards the end of the story… it’s Brown Bear!

While walking to the park, we coincidentally saw a bee buzzing around a bush! It was also a lovely surprise to be able to play together with our friends from Flowers Class while at the park.
