Save Our Clean Water

Our flower art.

Our flower art.

Our free playtime at back of the classroom was full of Lego. Playing blocks is always a great opportunity for us to show our creativity. It’s not only making something but we also enjoy matching, sorting, or counting blocks. At the small table, we had our flower collage activity. Doing puzzles has been a very popular activity for us, too. It’s a good brain exercise. It allows us to be challenged and when we complete it, we are proud of ourselves.

Circle Time-Clean Water or Dirty Water?

After our warm-up yoga with Sayaka, we started today’s circle time. “I’m going to talk about this.” she said and then she showed some clean water in the bowl. She added that she got some from tap. We use tap water many times in a day--washing hands, cleaning things, or we sometimes drink water from it. Z mentioned that when we use tap water, we need to turn it off. Hamish added that if we don’t turn it off, it’s just waste. “That’s exactly right,” Sayaka told us. She started explaining about the reason why we need to save water. She said that making drinkable and useable water requires using a massive energy. The earth doesn't want to create lots of energy, Sayaka said. Then she showed us dirty black water. “What if the earth said, no more clean water for Petals because Petals used too much water and its just waste.”

Sayaka-Can you imagine if we only have dirty water from the tap?
Z- I don't want to imagine.
Sayaka-Who wants to drink clean water?
H- I want to get clean water.
Sayaka-How do you feel if we only have dirty water to drink?
H- Sad and thirsty
S- I feel sad too if there's no water.
L- Happy.
R- Thirsty
Z- I have water at home for me to drink.
Sayaka- what if there's no water to drink
Z- Sometimes I don't like water.
Sayaka- What if there's no water at all
Z- Mama will give me water to drink.
A- I no drink. (He looks a bit sad)
Kai- I would be very scared because if we don't have water..
H- You'll die. If you drink that water (black water) you'll die.
Sayaka-What can we do to save water?
A- When I go home there's water.
Z- You have to turn off the tap!

Z had a great point. We always make sure that we turn off the tap and it will help to save water and energy. Lastly Sayaka mentioned that we are so lucky to be able to have fresh and clean water all that time. There are some people in the world who have a hard time to get clean water. After we had a discussion, we had a fun “movement” time. It made us feel thirsty! “What if we can’t drink water…?” Sayaka asked us. Some of us said that we have our own water bottle so it’s okay. Then she asked us once again, “What if we don’t have enough water or only dirty water to drink?” We shook our heads. Sayaka reminded us again, we should be grateful that we have clean water in our lives. After that we had our water break and went back to our fun playtime.

P.S. It was our first time to play musical chairs in Petals and we enjoyed it!

We will have Japanese day tomorrow and we are very excited!

Thank you very much for today and see you all tomorrow.

Love,

Happy Petals 2020-2021
