The Boys of March

Whoopsies! Our birthday boy can’t see!

The sun was shining brightly against the blue sky; the wind blew past the trees, tugging on their leaves as if asking them to play on this glorious day.

There were two boys, as handsome as they can be. The first boy was always smiling, with eyes twinkling; while the other had an easy grin who spoke in a deep voice. Then there were three teachers: one was a guy who enjoyed talking to us about how things work in this world; the other was a woman who always wore her hair in a short, very stylish hairstyle– she loved doing arts and crafts with us and was a master storyteller; the last one was chubby and quite silly– she likes making us laugh. But all three were whizzing by and looked like they were directing traffic at the same time, as our clean– up song played– they were always very quick to pack away things! They said that it was going to be an early snack because we had another special visitor.

Whew! Okay, we can’t continue this kind of storytelling– we tried to make it sound like a novel, because the title of this journal sounds like it! Haha! Erm, so maybe we’ll go back to the usual storytelling we do, heehee.

So, we had an early snack. Then, our special visitor was D’s mom– yes, again!

“Wow! We have another Brazil day?” H asked. We greeted her “Good morning!” and we sang the morning song with her. Then Pauline asked why do we think D’s mom is here again.

“Because it’s D’s birthday,” S said. Correct!

“If it’s D’s birthday… why do we have two chairs here on our special birthday table?” Pauline asked.

“It’s Y’s birthday, too,” Z told us. Yes, that’s right! So, Y and D got to sit on the special birthday chairs– and yes, they were “The Boys of March” that we were describing earlier!

“And… the end! That’s it for our birthday party, let’s go to the park!” Pauline said. We laughed and protested, “Noooooo…”

If they were special birthday people, what could be missing? Yes, the crowns/ hats! Hamish gave the birthday hat to Y, and H gave it to D. Next, we said that they needed cards, so L volunteered to give the birthday card we made  to D, and Aiden gave the card to Y.

Next, we asked them how old they were. Y told us he’s 4 (So we gave him 4 big jumps), and D said that he’s 3 (He asked for big jumps, too, so we gave him 3). Finally, the teachers turned off the lights, and it was time to blow out the candles on our cakes! But, this was not like any other cake– this was made out of paper (Because of the coronavirus). The teachers said that they hope that next time, we will have a real cake!

Kai brought out our cakes, and we sang “Happy Birthday” to them in both English and Japanese. C taught us how to sing it in Portuguese! She also shared with us that during D’s birthday, he had a Paw Patrol chocolate cake.

“What present did you get?” Pauline asked Davi.

“Paw Patrol!” Davi replied excitedly. Caroline also said that he got cars and a marble run, which was becoming his favorite now., which she showed to us through Zoom. It was amazing!

“How about you, Y? What kind of cake did you have?” The teachers asked.

“Cheesecake,” Y said. The teachers asked what present he got, and he answered with, “Cars.”

Our birthday friends and their mommies also prepared some special party goodies for us. Y and D distributed it to all of us, and we gave them a big “Thank you!” Party goodies are always exciting!

We also bid C goodbye, and we said thank you. We got ready for the park, and then Maryna and Gaelle arrived to our class and asked helped from us to draw the winners of our raffle! There were beauty products, pink Ohana shirts, restaurant vouchers, and a painting. We clapped our hands as our friends drew the names of the winners!

We had some more time, and Pauline said as it was a special day today, we will read a special book– we have some new books in Petals! We chose the book we want by clapping– the book we want to read the most gets the loudest clap and cheer.

The book we read was “Where Does Poo Go?” by Katie Daynes. We learned that when we flush the poo, it goes down the pipes, into the sewage to join other poo and pee, and into the sewage. It then gets treated, with the good germs called microbes eating all the bad germs. Microbes release a gas called methane, which can be use for power and electricity. Clean poo also gets to be used as food for plants, or to make bricks to build houses and buildings. Hooray for poo! We didn’t get to finish this very interesting book, so maybe we can do it tomorrow. And we’re off to the park! We met A and his mom, R, there, and they played with us in the green area.

That’s all for today– how about you? How was your day?

Love,

All the happy bunnies in Petals Class
