Cubes and Guessing Game

We had a special Monday today. We looked around and counted the number of friends and teachers we had. Then we noticed that there was something on the table that we usually do not see in our room. Do you know what it is? It is something that looks like a frame and is white. It is used for painting, but it isn’t a paper. It is called CANVAS. Shelley talked to us about CUBISM which Picasso used with his paintings. We got so excited when Shelley told us that we are all going to paint on the canvass!

Canvas Painting

Shelley helped us made squares using tapes on the canvas. Then we tried to paint (with colors we want!) within the square. You would be very amazed at how our first day of canvass painting turned out! Our friends who were not with us today are going to have their turn as well. Please look forward to seeing our finished canvas painting!

All about cubes!

K did an awesome job in reading today’s question of the day. He said, “Do you know what a cube is?”. We could see in our board that we only had 2 friends who said yes, we do know what a cube is.

Vieda took out a pouch bag that got shapes inside. She took out one shape at a time and we tried to tell if it was a cube or not.

We had some brilliant ideas when we saw different 3D shapes.

Ti: (looking at a cube) If you cut it more, it will be a small square.

Ak: If you cut it, it will be 3 together. If you cut it lots, you cannot make it a cube anymore.

Ad: If you cut it, it will be lots of square.

Ti: If you cut in a square into little diamonds, it will be a lot.

Ak: If you cut this (3D rectangle), then we will have 3 cubes.

Ch: I know that is a half a circle.

Well, now it seems like we all know how a cube looks like!

STORY TIME: Who’s Making That Mess? By Philip Hawthorn and Jenny Tyler, Illustrated by Stephen Cartwright

When we heard the word “mess”, we remember of how we make mess at home and what happens with it. We are all so eager to share our stories to everyone!

M: Everyday I clean it up. I was sad because my sister don’t help me.

            A: Sometimes I make a mess, but I clean I up.

Ch: I clean it up every time.

Li: Me and my brother make a mess and didn’t clean up. My mom didn’t know so we just go and sleep.

Yu: Sometimes I clean up and sometimes not.

AI clean up by myself all the time.

Ti: I don’t clean up sometimes.

K: I clean up by myself all the time.

Ak: Hi chan and me always clean up.

K: Sometimes I clean up this much (put up two fingers).

We love making mess and cleaning it up is sometimes a challenge. We were all so eager to see who we were going to meet in the story who’s making a mess!

The storybook was a lift-the-flap book and we waited in so much excitement to find out who is hidden behind the flap! At first, Vieda lifted the flap for us to see who made the mess. Suddenly, she started giving us clues or hints as to who made the mess. Guess what? The clues were not for the pictures! The clues pointed to one or some of us in Flowers. We listened intently as Vieda described the person or persons. It could be their clothing or hairstyle or anything that was just about them!  Afterwards, a friend was shown the picture behind the flap and he/she then gave clues so all the rest of us could guess who it was! We love guessing games!

Guessing games in early learners help in building vocabulary and problem-solving skills. Not only that, but it also helps us socialize with our friends as we often times try to solve the “problem” with our friends. Just read on the following and see how we tried our best to guess as well as to provide clues.

Vieda: Who is making the mess? It is someone who wears a shirt that has a heart or hearts on it!

Li, Yu and K: It’s me!!!

            Li: Is it S, too?

Tr: No because Vieda said a shirt with hearts but not pants. S has hearts but not on her shirt. She’s got hearts on her pants.

Vieda: Who is making a mess?

Ak: Is it teacher with red shirt and no rope on the shirt.

            Ka: Is it Nimo?

            Ak: Yes!!!

C: Someone who is wearing a dark blue shirt with yellow mask and red and white letters on his shirt.

            K: It’s K!

K: No it’s not me because my mask is not yellow.

Vieda: Would you like to go and check your mask in the mirror?

K: (looked in the mirror) Oh I have some yellow.

Vieda: Who is making a mess?

A: Is it someone who has a dark green shirt and spaceships on his pants?

            Ch: Me!

Ti: It is someone who has pink shirt with little pandas on her mask.

            Li: It’s me!
Y: It is someone who has black shoes and red letter on his shirt.

            Ak: I need a hint!

K: (looked at the answer in the book) It is something brown and has a tail.

            Ak: Horse?

            K: No, it likes bananas.

            Y: Monkey!
M: It is somebody …. A girl wearing something blue.

            Ak: It’s Messy Jess!

Yay, none of us made a mess in the storybook. How about at home? We told our teachers that we would play and take-out toys at home after coming back from school. We would like to share with our class tomorrow whether we made a mess and cleaned up after… or someone cleaned it up for us.

Just before lunch time, we had a surprise parcel from….. the Post Office People! Thank you so much for sending us sweet and cute Valentine treats! We took our treats home to share with our families.

 Love,

Flowers
