Hide-and-seek
We had a lovely Winter Holiday party yesterday and the fun event gave us a little bit of residue in singing our favorite songs in the classroom. Peace Like a River is always a big hit and the actions made us feel more connected to the music. For example, when the line went, “I got PEACE like a river”, everybody showed us a peace sign.
Playdough and Coffee
The fine motor skills that we learned today were pinching, squeezing, pounding, and cutting…these were the fine motor skills that we learned today. There were some googly eyes and play dough utensils that we utilized, and we have created impressive figures. Some of us topped it up with colorful oatmeal.
Scribbles and crayons
Our friends were interested in scribbling and making more lines and shapes on our paper. At first, we didn’t know what to draw, but Erika was kind enough to challenge various activities with the crayons. For example, she drew with one crayon and then added more and more until we tried putting as many crayons as we could in our hands. Then, of course, when we drew on the paper, it made lots of colors like a rainbow, and the patterns became so extravagant.
White Soft paper ripping
The middle table was filled with white sheets of paper, and we tried ripping them off slowly. Hmm…we wondered what this could be, and it seemed that we were going to have a game with this. It was nice to explore these materials and to understand how it felt when we tore the paper into two.
Floor Activities
We finished a big 24-piece jigsaw puzzle, and it was just a breeze for us because we’re getting so much better at this. Around the classroom, we also had some cars, cardboard boxes, some cushion slides. We tried experimenting with gravity again by putting the car on top of the slide and letting go of it until it fell on the ground. We said, “Hooray!”
The dollhouse was busy too as we took some furniture toys from the boxes and arranged them accordingly. We spent a lot of time experimenting and mixing and matching them together. We had so much fun making these connections and we felt like we were actually in charge of it as we ran our imagination with it.
Hide-and-seek
There’s one game we discovered playing today. Do you remember the Christmas tree we’ve made for the party? We used that as a spot for a good hiding. So, we started saying, “Find me”. We hid under the Christmas until our teachers said, “Peek-a-boo, I see you!” We all giggled and thought, “Wow! This is fun!” We played the game many times over until we got tired and looked for something else to do.
Circle time
Liezel started our circle time with upbeat music and of course, it’s always fun to run around and dance to the music. We sat down and sang our new hello song and it went something like this..
Hello, hello, it’s very nice to meet you
Hello, hello, it’s nice to be with you.
What is your name?
We went around to say our names and after that, we moved on to our next activity, making snow in Buds. We used the soft white paper we ripped earlier and the fan to make them move. The effect was majestic. We got so engaged that the whole classroom was filled with white snow. We even put them on the Christmas tree to have more effect.
That was fun, Liezel. Thank you for making our circle times very interactive and fun. Most importantly, we learned a lot from this activity.
Park time
It was cold, and the wind blew on our faces. We felt it and said to our teachers, “It’s freezing!” It showed on our faces that we were indeed cold! Petals class was there too and we just played with our bigger friends together with the balls we brought from school.
Thank you so much, Ohana, for another great day!
Lots of love,
All the children from Buds Class
