Winter Story
Welcome to winter school everyone, we are all excited to enjoy lots of wonderful stories! We only have four days of fun together, so we didn’t waste any time and started our first day off with a bang! We were so happy to see K join us today; all of our friends greeted our old Flowers friend at the door, and we were always together with K throughout the day. At first K seemed a little nervous, but in no time, he was playing with us and being his usual humorous self!
In the morning we played with geometric shapes and the construction set. Nimo called our friends to do some cutting art with him. We had a big pile of scrap paper that we were allowed to freely use. We cut up the paper into shapes and pasted them on our paper and if we wanted, we could draw some things on to it. Our goal was to make something “winter like”, snowmen, snowflakes, Santa, and Christmas Trees were some ideas that came to mind.
After everyone finished their craft, we got into a circle and sang some songs! We sang our Halloween version of “Down By The Bay”, and showed K that we can rhyme too! K was very excited today to go to step park and he told his teachers, “I missed coming here!”. We had a great time running around and playing ball. When we got back to school, we gathered around for our circle time.
Nimo started our circle time by reading the book, “The Snowy Day” by Ezra Jack Keats. It is a very famous book about Peter and his day outside in the snow. The way Ezra illustrated the book looked a little like our pictures we made this morning. Because our theme for our Winter School this year is about “Winter Stories”, Nimo wanted to make a book together! He took out our cutting craft from this morning and lined them up on the floor. He asked each of us to explain what we drew.
K: This is snow, and these are the shapes of snow.
N: Here is L, N, Dad, and Mom with U in her tummy. I drew a Christmas tree, a house, snowflakes, and a train.
U: This is a snowman, his name is Over and this is Over’s house. This is U and N’s house, and these are Christmas trees. I also have snowflakes, stars and the moon.
A: Ambulance!
K: I made Mt.Fuji with a house on it. This is Tokyo Tower, the highway, lots of cars, trains, the train crossing and this building is the “Skyscraper”.
Y: Big Christmas tree and families! This is Mt. Fuji!
T: I cut out lots of snowmen. This one is Ginger, Cinnamon, these two are stuck together so they are both called Love. This one is No, this one is Mo, and these two are Ro.
K: Reindeer and Santa, This is snow and this is house. I write my name.
We then brainstormed ideas and with our amazing creativity we were able to make a story in no time! The story goes like this:
K (Page one): A long long time ago, there was a mountain with lots of beautiful snow!
N (Page two): On that mountain there lived L snowman, N snowman, Daddy snowman, and mommy snowman with U in her tummy. The mountain had lots of snowflakes, Santa, trains, and their house.
Una (Page three): One day a snowman named Over came looking for his found and made a mistake and thought our O house was his house and took the two Christmas trees. We said, “Wait that is ours!” and Over said, “Sorry” and gave the trees back. Then he started to cry because he couldn’t get back home anymore because there was too much snow.
A (Page four): The ambulance come! Pipo pipo (sound of siren)!
K (Page five): The ambulance took Over to Tokyo and to the Skyscraper building to get fixed. The doctor fixed him up and Over headed to the house on Mt. Fuji because him and his wife were going to have babies. Over has a huge garden on top of Fuji and so he hired a DJ and threw a party.
Y (Page six): The party is fun and the babies were born. Santa was hiding in the Christmas tree to give presents to the newborn baby snowmen.
T (Page seven): Ginger, Cinnamon, Love, No, Mo, and Ro got presents and they were very happy!
K (Page eight): The snowmen said thank you to Santa and he hopped on his reindeer and flew off!
The end!
Nimo will add the words to our pictures then copy them to make a book so we can take one home for our library!
Thank you everyone for a lovely start to our Winter School! Have a lovely evening and we will see you tomorrow!
Love,
Flowers
