Hungry Season

Why is it that this season makes us all hungry? This morning as we were playing with our newly made batch of play dough, our teachers couldn’t stop thinking about all the scrumptious things to eat such as pretzels, bagels, dim sum and even the ear ring that Liezel made, looked like onion rings in our hungry eyes 👀. What are your favorite things to eat in Autumn? While you have a think about it, let us invite you to some of the things we did in Buds today.

Cooking Play-dough
For a long time, we had not been able to do one of our favorite activities: cooking. It was about time we missed the whole science, mathematics, art of cooking. S and P were particularly interested in helping make one and we were debating on whether to make it in green, red or perhaps gold and the next thing we realized, the table and floor was covered in golden glitter and sparkles! Well, it was decided on the spot that we were making golden play dough! Can you guess which upcoming event we are preparing for?

Here is the best no-cook play-dough recipe that you can also use at home. 1) Measure each ingredient below. 2) Mix the dry ingredients. 3) Add the vegetable oil and mix some more. 4). Pour in some boiling water as you mix the dough until your liking of softness. 5) Kneed the dough and this is when you can customize your play dough by adding any color, smell, or texture.

【Ingredients】
Plain flour 2 cups
Salt 1/2 cup
Cream of tartar 2 tablespoons
Vegetable oil 2 tablespoons
Boiling water 1-1/2 cups
*Optional: food coloring, sparkles, spices, etc

Pompoms In the Cup
Here, J and K were busy picking up colorful pompoms using a tong into a paint cup with a hole at the top. Once one cup was full of pompoms, we moved on to the next one…until all the cups were full. The teachers helped us open the cover so that we could empty the cups and start it all over again.

Follow the Lines
Our floor area had lines - straight and zigzag one! We took cars, buses, and trucks to run along the line. We also used wooden blocks to trace the line. Soon our imagination overflowed together with the cars and buses which travelled everywhere! The most popular place was of course, the balcony, heavily populated with boys while others were busy sous chefs at the table with Erika, Liezel and Tamara.

Puzzle Masters
From easy to difficult, we have been challenging ourselves with puzzle. Together with Liezel and Tamara, we turned the pieces this way and that. We shook our heads when the pieces wouldn’t fit and helped each other solve the problem. Just like that, as a team we solved one problem at a time and eventually completed the whole puzzle! Hooray!

Circle Time
We started off marching around the circle along the song We Are the Dinosaurs, stomping our feet and making roaring sounds. Since we were talking about food we had a lot of fun forming and peeling as bananas and other fruits and veggies. As we gathered in a circle, we sang “If You’re Happy and You Know It” and sang about our feelings. Then we greeted ourselves singing our Good Morning song. Today H helped us count the number of friends - there were eight friends - and just when we were about to count the number of teachers, J stood up excitedly saying, “shu shu” and there outside was a garbage truck parked outside. We all went to the balcony and waved the truck leave! Settling back in to our circle, we read a book called Spinderella by Julia Donaldson and Sebastien Braun. It was about a spider who wanted to learn to count and with the help by her hairy godmother, she out-wins her brothers and sisters not just by learning how to count but also by making a mighty goal kick in a football match!

It was such beautiful day to be outside. We sang the Gu Choki Pa song and made different shapes with our hands. Once we got to the alley that leads to Step park, we started singing “Touch, touch, touch your tummy. Touch, touch, touch, touch…” S had so many ideas to share that he soon became the ring leader and suggested touching our “head,” “eyes,” “cheeks,” “ears,” and when we said, “eyeball” we all stopped…and burst out in laughter!!!

Thank you for another lovely day.

Love from all the friends in Buds xoxo
