Hats on Top

Brrrr…It is getting colder and colder every day. When it is cold, what do we wear on top of our head? Yes, we wear our HATs! We tried on some funny hats and did a funny hat dance : ) We also welcomed L back who was away in Pakistan with her family and it was absolutely nice to see her in Buds again! Here is what we did…

Snow Dough Wonderland
One table was covered with newspaper with sensory tubs and animal figurines placed on top. We thought we were going to play with the animal figurines until, the teachers started to throw in two cups of cornstarch and ½ cup of vegetable oil in the tub. We used our hands to mix the two ingredients and soon, our special snow dough was made! But wait, we need one more important thing to add: silver sparkles! We all dived our hands inside the tub and what a mess we made! In no time, we were covered in “snow” from head to toe. Teacher Tamara said that we all suddenly looked aged with white hair! Hahaha!

Leaf Stencil Painting
We have been repeatedly using leaves in the past weeks and we noticed that leaves, or in fact anything we can pick from nature can give us endless ideas! We placed home-made leaf stencils over a rolled sheet of white paper. Using sponges and fruit wrappers, we dipped some paint and covered all the white parts with yellow, red and green paint. After the paint dries up, we our hoping to add something more to it. Let’s see how it will turn out!

Duplo Blocks and Connecting Balls
One of the favorite things we like to do recently is to bring all our classroom toys out on the balcony! We grab our Anpanman, blue truck and white helicopter under our arms and find a red chair to sit outside while we enjoy the fresh air and all kinds of interesting sounds we can hear from above and the street. The balcony turns in to a theatre, a meeting forum, a musical performance stage and more!

Circle Time
This morning we did the Hokey Pokey dance - we put different body parts in and out of the circle and loved shaking our bottoms from side to side. We also learned to hum. R, C and H first demonstrated how to hum. Then we played a game while singing Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes. For “head” we only hummed and sang the words for the rest of the song. We sang again, and this time, we hummed for “head” and “toes!” It was a bit tricky to remember when to sing the words and when to hum.

We sang our Good Morning song to introduce L to some of our new friends. It has been nearly two months since she was in Buds!!! Then we had a question for the day: What do you wear on your head when it is cold outside? We all looked into each other’s eyes and pondered for a moment…Hmm…Nanako put something on top of her head. Then C wanted to try, then R, K, K…Theo answered, “hat!” Still with our hats on our heads, we walked around in a circle and danced along a silly song called, Hats on Top. We also read a silly story called I Want My Hat Back by Jon Klassen about a bear who lost his red and pointy hat and goes around asking his animal friends until he realizes one of his friends had stollen it! We cannot tell you what he did afterwards in case you want to read the story yourself (or to us for bedtime, perhaps).

I guess, it is nearly time for us to wear OUR hats to park! At the park, we met both Petals and Flowers’ friends and teachers – we had a lot of fun running, kicking the balls and chasing our teachers around!

Thank you for another lovely day!
Love from all the children in Buds xoxo
