Our Unique Snowflakes

Happy Monday everyone! Hope everyone had a great weekend as we start another week of school!

Morning Play/Craft time

We started our morning with lots of crafts! At one station, we painted some CDs to do some scratch art when they dry. At another table, we made snowflakes by gluing some popsicles together. We then used our markers to draw and color, and some small sticks to make designs on our unique snowflake. We had another painting table where we painted two Styrofoam balls to make a snowman! After we were all done with our crafts we went to the play table where we had the roller coaster builder set, we tried to make the tallest roller coaster in the world!

Birthday Party

The 25th is S’s birthday, so we decided to throw a party for her! Nimo began setting up the computer. While he was setting up the projector, our friends asked what he was doing.

K: (The projector) Is connected to the computer and the projector prints our faces on the wall! Once we got everything set up we welcomed R and T, and we began our birthday party for S! We started our party by learning the names of our guests by singing our, “Good morning song”. T read us a special story which he said was the book S choose! He read, “Giraffes can’t dance” by Giles Andreae. We enjoyed T’s storytelling, the teachers could tell because everyone was quiet and listening very well! We then handed S her crown, and birthday card and we sang a few songs. S, R, and T prepared special gifts for us to take home! Thank you R and T!

We helped Nimo pack the computer and the projector away and we got the classroom prepared for Gym time. Before we started we talked about why it’s important to listen to our teachers.

M: Because if one kid is running, the other might copy.

K: They might run into each other and it will be a disaster. A disaster is something super bad.

A: Fire too is a disaster.

C: Someone runs and bumps into each other, blood comes out.

M: If you bump into a car, that’s how you’ll die.

N: When you get a car wash, you might get stuck in the tires and I’ll be like a pancake.

Nimo: Why do you think car accidents happen?

K: Because people drive when they don’t have a license.

C: License is the people say how they drive a car.

K: You need a license to drive a car. A license is when you get the skill, they make you a card.

M: If you don’t listen, you become a bad guy and go to jail.

K: A police officer will pull you over and if you get 100 tickets they will get you out of your car and you will get hand cuffed.

If we don’t listen to our teachers or the rules, then people with get hurt. Nimo reminded one more time before we stood up and did our stretches. We did some warm ups and few games to get our bodies warmed up. Nimo got our monkey bar again and we practiced hanging on it again. We love hanging so much we all wanted to do more. Our teachers thought we might be ready for the next level, which in Japanese is called roast pork (Buta no maru yaki). They call it roast pork because the pose looks like a pig that is being roasted on the stick. Roast pork sounded very yummy, so if we were able to stay hanging for more than 10 seconds we would be nice and roasted, “Roasted Y coming right up!”, yummy! In order to do the roasted pork pose, we would grab the pole with our hands then get our legs up on the bar too and cross our legs on the pole. We tried our best to pull our head closer to the pole rather than just dangling. We enjoyed playing with the monkey bar so much we wanted to do more, but unfortunately we didn’t have enough time so we had a quick circle time and a game before our lunch.

Y read our question of the day again today, “Do you think Snowflakes are beautiful?”. Nimo asked some of our friends to count how many said yes and no in their heads, six said yes, three said no.

T: Did you know I talk to my brain a lot without making noise?

K: Even though I talk to my brain, my sister still knows.

A: I can talk to my head too.

Nimo showed us a picture of a microscope and told us that if we took a look at a snowflake with one of these science tools we would see something amazing. We saw a few pictures of the snowflake and many of us were surprised to see how beautiful it was.

A: I like snowflakes.
T: Wow, it looks just like Frozen.

N: My brother has a microscope.

M: I know! You put the thing here and you look through here.

Nimo said that snowflakes and diversity are very similar.

C: Because they are white?

Nimo told us there are no same snowflakes, they are all different, just like us!

S said she wanted to play the copy cat game with her friends so that’s what we played. We sang, “copy cat , copy cat, I can be copy cat!”. We took turns making a silly pose and our friends had to copy. We had a great laugh!

Have a lovely evening and we will see you again tomorrow!

Love,
