Discovering the sweet potatoes
Today was all about meaningful conversations and observations with our Buds friends. There are so many things that we are curious about and we couldn’t stop our interest in getting to know more of our sweet potatoes that Flowers class brought for us on Tuesday.
First, we saw the sensory materials on the table and they were the roots of the sweet potatoes, some pinecones and wooden chips. We all enjoyed touching and feeling some dried leaves as this is also our way of learning things. However, our friends are becoming more expressive of their thoughts and feelings as we go along with our day.
Here’s one scenario during our morning free playtime with our friends and teachers:
Liezel was showing our friends the sweet potatoes and roots and S said, “We need to cut the sweet potato, we need to wash after we wash, we need to turn off the water, then we need to cover and chop, chop.”
H lined up the pinecones and started counting them. J piled up the wooden chips and she called them cheese. R offered a sweet potato sandwich.
T gave a pinecone to W and W smiled back.
K tried helping our new friend K with her food. K replied, “Nanana”. It looked like she enjoyed being fed by her friend.
Chairs everywhere
When we’re having our play huts, cushion slides and balance beams on the floor, our friends had a brilliant idea by including chairs and in the play process. They also balanced on the chair and pushed the chairs around and around just like our dear friend R. We ended up most of us playing with the chairs and discovering what we could do with them.
Circle time
For our circle time, we gathered around and sang our movement song. We jumped, ran, kicked and turned around and around. We also sang our all-time favorite Baby Shark song. Our friends had a great idea of including brother, sister, uncle and auntie sharks in the library.
Liezel presented a mystery object to us. It was entirely covered with newspaper, and we had no idea what it was. Of course, our teachers would not just open it up and see what’s in there. We love to WONDER and say our impressions on the object. Here’s how our conversation went…
Su – there is a bee inside the newspaper
Re – sweet potato bee
T – there is no bee.
Su – it’s dark!
K – Oh wow!
J tried to listen to the newspaper maybe she thought that a sound could give a clue.
K tried smelling the sweet potato.
Park time
It was a sunny day and we all enjoyed the warm sun on our faces. We noticed our shadows on the green area and started playing with them too. Our shadows just followed us all the time and we just loved this activity with our friends.
Thank you so much Ohana for another great day and see you all again tomorrow for our Halloween Party!
Lots of love,
All the children from Buds class
