Circles Go Around and Around!

Circles Everywhere!

It’s part two of our Circle Day and our teachers have surprised us with more round bouncing fun with various circle shaped equipment and toys for our Free Play period!

There were lots of balls! Not colorful plastic ball this time but actual ones that are used in sports such as baseball, basketball, soccer, and tennis. We had to take extra care of which ball to use for throw & catch as some of the balls were heavy and might cause an “ouchie”.

Another new equipment that amused and sparked our curiosity were the rings. Erika showed us that aside from putting balls inside the rings, we could  roll it using our hands or down the slide. Just imagine the amazement on our faces when we saw how the ring moved! Some of us opted to browse through books with pictures of circles in it.

Slotting in Wooden Round Pegs

Working with the wooden round pegs requires us to use a lot of brain power and a long amount of patience. It was mostly the older children who got drawn to this activity. The wooden pegs target different skills such as fine motor, problem solving, and socializing. It was wonderful to see how everyone huddled around the table and “brainstormed” together to complete the two rows of wooden pegs.

Arranging Buttons Around a Circle

We’ve seen how a circle looks like and can easily identify it but how do we form one? Since we’re still developing our drawing and fine motor skills, we tried lining up round shaped buttons around a picture of a circle.  Interesting that this shapes had no sides and seemed to have no “end”.

Dotted Marker Portrait

Some of who continued working on one of next big projects which is the Dotted Marker Portrait. It may be the same activity but the different collaborations between us makes the experience working on this art always new and exciting.

Circle Time

For our new friends to get use to the routines in class, we all sang “Slowly, slowly pack away” together to pack away the many circle shaped toys that we used during Free Play period. We danced and sang to songs to help us settle down for Circle Time. We enjoyed singing acapella to “Itsy Bitsy Spider”, “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star”, and ended with “The Wheels on the Bus”. The lyrics of the song goes “The wheels on the bus go ‘round and ‘round” … ooh! Circles are round!

Erika showed us a book from Spot the Dog series and asked us if something from its cover reminded us of an object that we used during Free Play. Hmm.. We didn’t have Spot visit us earlier… it’s the ball the he was playing with! We listened  to the story of how Spot and his friends played with the ball while at the park. After the story, our teachers asked us if we wanted to head to the park since we had such a lovely weather this morning. Of course we answered, “Yes!”

We are our snacks and got ready for park. We sang “Magic Penny” while walking to the park to make the journey “shorter. We enjoyed kicking the ball and running around the green area.

We hope you all had a beautiful day!

                                       Love, Buds Class Children
