Edwina the Emu
Twisting Typhoon Thursday, it’s a bummer that swirling whirling wind storm is heading our way. It’s great that it has cooled down a lot, but because it’s looking like a rainy day today, we didn’t have a chance to play at the park. Even if it was sunny today, we may not have had time for the park either way. We finished up our digestive system art by writing or pasting in the names of the parts of our body. Some of us spent the entire morning finishing up our Autumn Table Art, and some of us went were busy hammering in nails into a corkboard with a hammer. After a short free play time, we quicky worked together to tidy up the classroom then had our snacks.
Nimo began wiring up the projector again for our third guest for story time! M, A’s Grandma joined us on zoom for another wonderful moment together! Like always, we started with some questions for M.
Ke: Do you have a grandpa?
M: Yes we do have a grandpa! Do you know where I live?
Y: Are you from America?
Ak: Okinawa??
Ka: I know! Tokyo!
M: Here’s a hint, I live in a country where there are many Koalas
Ad: Do you live in Australia?
M: That’s right! And it’s summer time now in Australia *showed us her sunny backyard*
T: Oh my goodness!
A: It’s starting to be autumn in Tokyo
M: It’s 10 hours on an airplane to go to Japan.
T: I ride in an airplane, I go to the beach house.
Ri: Did you grow up in Australia?
M: Yes, I grew up in Sydney and I now live in Queensland. Now flowers class, can you tell me what this is? *shows us an egg*
A: That’s an egg!
M: Why do birds lay eggs?
A: Because the baby wants momma. There are little baby birds inside the eggs.
M: What kind of bird laid this egg?
Y: Ostrich
T: Ostrich eggs are big!
Ke: Bird!
C: Is it a quail egg?
M: This here is a chicken egg, who can guess who’s egg looks like this avocado here?
Ak: Ostrich!
Ad Quail?
K: Chicken
A: That looks like an Emu egg.
M: That’s right! It’s an Emu egg!
M then showed us the special book she was going to read for us, it was called. Edwina The Emu by Sheena Knowles. It was the story that follows the story of Edward The Emu. Here we follow Edward’s partner, Edwina to find a job perfect for her. After exploring all sorts of jobs, she heads on home to take care of her eggs. M also showed us a real picture of Emu eggs and how big Emus can be! We had a great time with M and we thanked her for stopping by!
After our Ballet Class we quickly got together and answered our Question of the Day which L read for us, “Do you have lots of water in your body?” Many of our friends answered yes and said, “because we drink so much water”. Nimo told us more than half of our body is made up of water. Where does it all go?
K- inside the body
A- In our chest
Ch- Spit
Y- in our toes
K- Food going to stomach
N- Anything else in our bodies that is made from water?
K- I know in Japanese, Chi
Y- Blood
N- What do you think Blood does for our body?
A- The blood is like a lizard moving all over the place in our body
Y- Blood need to go everywhere in the body, and when you fall down there is blood.
K- Kasabuta (scab)
A- One time I fall down and hit my head and there was blood.
N- I want to continue this discussion tomorrow. I want everyone to think about what our blood does for our bodies for tomorrow.
A- Maybe we can dream about it when we have nap time.
Y- I have a book about bodies, but nothing written about blood.
That was the end of our circle time and we were left to wonder about this mysterious red liquid flowing through our body. We will tackle the question again tomorrow!
Thank you very much M for joining us today!
Hope everyone has a lovely evening!
Love,
Flowers
