Embracing differences

Good day! It was a fine morning and the weather started to clear up. We’re quite happy to see Mr. Sun for he’s shining so brightly today.  As we entered our classroom, we noticed something very different than last week. We saw some clear screens on our tables and we  wondered why they were there. Our teachers explained that we have to make sure that these screens are stable and we don’t touch them. They told us that they are screens for protection while we’re eating. For example, if somebody sneezes while having his/her meal, the screen  can cover it for us. It was quite effective for we ate while being mindful of what’s around us.

We had some blocks and matching puzzles on our tables. They’re very calm and tried to complete the tasks with little help from our teachers. After our free play time, Kai went downstairs and played with us too. It was fun being with him because it was the first time to be playing with him. He usually plays with Flowers children.

Tsurumi-sensei came to our class as well and we just love his energy. We did our warm-up exercises and did  some animal exercises with him. We did two sessions for two groups and it was really good to see the children have their own time doing the stretches and workouts. In the end, we were able to play with the little balls that Tsurumi-sensei brought for us today. It was so fun!

For our circle time, we did some music sessions  with John and the highlight of the class was  dancing to the tune of “Walking, walking”. Our favorite part was “Sleeping, sleeping” and it was nice to see how cooperative we were because we were listening to the music intently. We just loved to pretend sleeping and then wake up and be energetic as much as we could.

Another interesting that we did today was comparing our physical appearances with our friends. Traits that we learned today were having a blonde, black and brown hair, big and  small body sizes and dark and fair skin color. It was fascinating  to see how we reacted to our differences and we actually learned that we’re all different but we’re the same. It was a bit confusing to hear that but when John explained to us that we may come  from different race, culture and physical attributes but we are all human beings.  We also read a book called, “Happy in our skin”. It was about babies that have different skin color.

Lastly, we traced the body of our friends as part of our big project this week. We’ll be doing this and make some designs and colors on it. We’re excited to have them as part of our every day art activity.

It was a fun day  again today and we always thank our friends and teachers for always working hard and looking after us each day. Thank you so much and have a great day! See you all again tomorrow.

Lots of love,

All the children from Buds class
