Wooden Montessori Toys
Montessori toys are loaded with opportunities to have a lot of skills to be developed. A lot of our friends took the challenge of seeing which of their skills will be unlocked by playing with a Montessori toy which tasked them to use their fine motor and problem solving skills.
Pulling out the bigger pegs from its wooden container was easy. It started to become challenging when it was the smaller pegs’ turn to be pulled out because it was more snug.
After pulling out the pegs, the next task was to slot it back in in its proper place which carried a different challenge of its own. This toy also showed how well focused and patient our friends can be to complete the task.
Tracing Animal Cut Outs
We had animal tracing activity available on another table. Identifying what animal cutout was given to us was our first task. Figuring out the animal was a bit tricky. There was one particular animal cutout that was difficult to guess… we thought that it may be either a flamingo or ostrich. Some of us who enjoy drawing gave a helping hand to those who find it challenging to trace around the animal cut out. It was nice to see friends helping each other.
< CIRCLE TIME>
We started our Circle Time by making music with egg shakers. We were instructed to do several things with such as gently patting it, shaking it hard, and throwing it up in the air & catching it with both our hands. We used it as an accompaniment when we sang “It’s A Small World” and “Skidimarink” together with John playing the guitar & Moko Sensei playing the drum.
Aside from singing, we also played our favorite game of moving really fast when a catchy song is being played and slowing down when a mellow sound is played.
We listened to the story “Do You Want to Be My Friend?” by Eric Carle. Together with the little mouse in the story, we met a lot of different animals until we found the perfect friend for the mouse. We also remembered that it was raining this morning and it’ll be nice to have a friend who can lend us an umbrella!
A cloudy sky may mean that rain is going to pour down soon. Erika showed us an empty cloud. For raindrops to fall from it, it needs to be “heavy”. We were all given a piece of blue paper and had to crumple it into a tiny ball. Each one of took turns to paste our crumpled blue ball on the cloud. The cloud started to get heavier each time one of us added a blue ball and soon, rain drops started to fall from it.
We wish everyone a lovely weekend!
