The Polar Bears in the Arctic
February 11th 2020
We had another chilly day. We talked about our ideas how we can reduce global warming. Our teacher told us that the earth is crying because its getting hotter and hotter each day. We also learnt some animals are having hard time in artic because of it. Let us share with you more of what we talked about today!
“We have something for you! It’s chocolate.” Thank you! We had special sweet gifts for our teachers. A made sure that the teachers need to have it for dessert. He added that teachers have to wait until lunch time too. Our teachers were very happy and gave us big hugs. On the big table was a Valentine’s Day activity with Pauline. We made lots of hearts with scissors, then Pauline asked us to think of something we really like. After we all finished making it, teachers will display them on that wall for Valentine’s day. A few friends haven't done the writing activity with Nimo, so we finished that up today. Writing our name is not easy, but we tried our best to do it. On the carpet area we had blocks to play with. Kitchen area was busy as always. “Wow lots of food!” teacher said to us. “this is for a party!” We pretended that we will be having party so we need to prepare lots of food. After we packed away our toys, we gathered all together and greeted each other. We also had the fun number game with Sayaka before snack time. International month: How we can help our earth and Arctic animals. After we had snacks, Sayaka wanted to remind us that we need to separate the burnable and un-burnable gomi (trash) before throwing them away. Teacher often see tissue paper in the un-burnable trash and She showed that there were some tissue in the unburnable trash. After that we took the tissue out from un-burnable and properly placed them in the burnable. Then She showed us two pictures. The photos showed us that polar bears are having a hard time living over in the Arctic. Sayaka explained that the reason why they are having a hard time is because of global warming. Global warming is a very serious issue and it not only heats up earth but also the ocean and air. There were lots of ice that were the polar bear’s home before global warming. Now, some polar bears can’t even find their food and they are getting skinnier. Sayaka started telling us that global warming can happen when people use lost of energy. Like, burning trash, turning on lights and/or TV, driving a car, and more! Sayaka said that if we want to help the polar bears, we need to reduce the use of energy. What we can do for them…??
A: We need to put the tissue in the burnable.
S: Maybe polar bear can make ice again.
A: We can turn off the light when we leave.
C: You need to turn off the light to make the energy shorter.
Sayaka: How about gomi? If we have lots of gomi everyday, it means we are using lots of energy.
H: We can put it in the bin.
L: Make the gomi small.
Sayaka: Yes. I think that is a great idea.
How we can make small gomi? Sayaka started talking about saving tissue. After she showed us how we can save tissue, one of our friends shared her idea. “If we have no more tissue, we can just buy it.” Then Sayaka told us that we should try our best to reduce gomi and that will help the polar bears, other animals in arctic, and our earth. Yes! We will try our best! After that we headed to the park and enjoyed a lot. Thank you so much for today! Love,
