Who's Coming for Halloween?
Pulling, Tearing, & Sticking Tapes
Tapes! Tapes! Tapes! Our fingers love to pull and stretch these sticky tapes.
One of the stations during Free Play period was all about pulling, tearing, and sticking tape on a piece of black paper. Erika assisted us in doing this activity by having us use both our hands to pull & stretch the tape. One hand for pulling and another hand for holding on to the ring of the tape. We made a “Whoooops!” sound as we pulled the tape. Elastic tapes were much challenging to pull & tear compared to the paper tape ones.
It was quite tricky to get a hold of strips of tape that were too long. We needed to use both our hands in order to properly stick the tapes. Most of us worked in pairs to help each other with this activity.
This activity aims to help enhance our eye-hand coordination, strengthen our finger muscles, and learn how to work in groups.
Recycling for Halloween Decors
One of the important values we learn while in Ohana is sustainability and caring for our planet. Recycling and lessening our waste are just some of the ways our teachers are helping us understand and learn. Yesterday’s persimmon tree during Sports Day has gone through a huge transformation… it now serves as our Halloween Tree!
Together with John, we hanged black & white yarn around the tree trunk. It was fun to go around the trunk and watch the yarn get longer and draped along the branches.
Another Halloween décor project that we started working on was painting our buntings. Shelley assisted us in stamping black & red paint using old bubble wraps and foam fruit wrappers as patterns. She even showed us a cool trick by placing a clean sheet of paper and pressing it onto the paint… it made the exact same replica of the image that we stamped!
The Friendly Colorless Ghost
We started our Circle Time by welcoming the four Halloween characters that were introduced to us yesterday. The Scary Witch, Big Green Monster, Black Cat, and White Ghost. The first three Halloween characters were in a rush and had to leave. Luckily, White Ghost brought along its friend… the Colorless Ghost! Colorless Ghost felt a bit sad because it had no color of its own. We fed it food that varied in colors… when it ate blueberries, it became blue! When it ate strawberry ice cream, it became pink! And when a naughty black spider crawled by, our Friendly Colorless Ghost caught and gobbled it up and turned into the color black!
Our Friendly Colorless Ghost was now happy knowing that it had the ability to change into many different colors.
After snacks, we geared up to go to the park and enjoyed playing in the lovely autumn weather.
