First day of School - Welcome to Ohana!

Good day everyone! After a long holiday for the teachers, they were all excited to greet our friends today. As we started our day, most of our friends are now transitioning into a new environment and our teachers were so aware of what they needed to do so that they would feel more comfortable in class. Our older friends showed us how to do our morning jobs and for the new ones they were observing pretty well to see how the whole process was taking place.

After our morning jobs, we saw several activities on our art tables and carpet area…

TABLE ACTIVITIES

On one table, we’ve got some sensory materials such as wooden chips, sea shells, flowers and pine cones. We put all the materials on trays and we’ve got some tweezers or tongs that we used to practice our fine motor skills for pinching and holding little things with our tiny fingers. For the most part, some of our friends would rather use their hands to grab them. The other table was filled with puzzle pieces. It was a bit challenging but most of us tried our very best to fix and put the pieces altogether.

CARPET AREA

The carpet area was also busy with cars and a map. The children were so excited to move the cars around and we all had a great opportunity of lining them up and made a long one in the classroom. There was also the fire truck that we all loved and a special guitar that our friends passed around while playing it together with our teachers.

MUSIC SESSIONS

We did a lot of music today and one of the highlights that we had was working on our arms with the bells. Our teachers told us to move our arms up and down while making the sound. We also waved our hands and swayed them side to side. It was very interesting that our friends were so fascinated by the amount of music experience that we had today. We also learned our names. Slowly, we would be learning more about them and to get familiar with one another as much as we can. For our older friends, we learned to count from one to ten with our special book from the library. We used our fingers to show how many we have counted. We also read a book called HEAD to TOE by Eric Carle. It was quite funny to see how the children imitated the actions from the book like thumping our chest like a gorilla, bending our knees like a camel and so on. The experience was totally a great workout session with our teachers and friends.

PUPPET SHOW, OUR STUFFED DOG HOWARD AND MORE SONGS…

We saw a puppet show and the story was “The Very Hungry Caterpillar”. When they heard that the caterpillar was looking for food. They suddenly got some food toys from the kitchen and immediately offered it to the puppet caterpillar. Our stuffed dog Howard made a good introduction. We all gave him a big high five and a hug today. Pretty sure that we’re all going to have more time with our friendly Howard in the future. Of course, we sang more songs like, “If you’re happy and you know it…”, “Good morning song”, “Wheels on the bus”, “Twinkle, twinkle little star” and “ BINGO”.

It felt that we did a lot today for just a half day. We were so entertained and simply had fun in the classroom.

Thank you so much Ohana and have a great day!

Lots of love,

Buds Children
