Saving the Best for Last

Last day of Summer School…
It was a day of mixed emotions, of being happy and sad since today is our last day at Ohana. We will be missing coming to school everyday, as well as our friends and teachers. We want to say goodbye to our friends who are going to another school next year and we will look forward to seeing our friends who are coming back next school year! Wishing everyone a safe trip and great summer holiday!
Free Play: Cleaning and Sorting
We decided to stay at school today and had fun time doing indoor water play. Our teachers put three basins with clean water on the table. When we came in the class we asked our teachers if we can play with water and they said yes! We saw some frozen dinosaurs inside the basin. J and S said, “The water is too cold!” “It took a long time to melted the ice cubes, we want to take the dinosaurs out!” T commented. “ But the ice is getting smaller.” B added. “Because of the water, that’s why.” N explained.
Liezel asked, “How can we clean the toys? T answered, “With water here!” ”With soap!” E added. What else can we use to clean the toys? “ “A scrubber,” N exclaimed. Then Liezel took some sponges and gave each one for us to use. We also sorted out toys, then laid them all on top of the table. We have some animals like dinosaurs, insects, numbers
Morning Activities: “How does it feel to ride in a roller coaster?”
We wanted to have another experiment on our last day of being a scientist and that was a roller coaster ride. But how can we do it inside our classroom?
Pauline set up the laptop and she put chairs on top of the cushions. We are going to pretend that we are riding in a roller coaster. Each of us had a turn to experience it. It was so much fun, and we made some noises each time the chairs moved; it went up and down and side to side. It looked like we are in a real roller coaster while we watched the screen. Our teachers were excited and tired from moving the chairs, so then John came and helped.
Pauline: How did you feel when you pretended to be in the roller coaster?
N: It was a little bit scary, but I didn’t fall down
J: I was a little bit scared especially when it’s going up and down, Liezel is strong than John
S: I ‘m not scared because it was funny
Pauline: Sota, do you like roller coasters?
S: Yes!
Z: It was a little bit scary, because John-John is too strong!
T: It was a little bit scary when I go down it was too steep
N: What is steep?
T: Steep means high
B: I actually was not scared, I was not saying “Ahhhh!”
Pauline: Do you like it?
B: Yeah!
E: I feel like it’s a real roller coaster , I didn’t say “Ahhh!”
K: I think it is scary because it was down and up
Pauline: Did you feel like it was a real roller coaster ?That’s our experiment!
J: It looks like a little bit funny
Pauline: We are scientists so we used our five senses. Do you remember what they are?
N: Sense of eyes, sense of skin, sense of smell, sense of listening
Pauline: When we pretended to be in a roller coaster we used our senses, right? When you watched the movie your eyes are sending messages to your brain. Your ears can hear the sound of a roller coaster and are sending message to your brain that tells you, it’s scary!!!
Your skin can feel the vibrations and sends a message to your brain that you are in a roller coaster. Your brain is doing a trick too! That’s what happens when you go to parks like Disneyland or Disney sea and you go on rides– they are called 3D rides. You watch a movie, then sit on a chair that’s moving. Then you can hear the sound effects. You feel like it’s real but it isn’t real.
E: It”s like you can hear something under your chair like ding.. ding.. ding…
We concluded our experiment by watching examples of 3D rides. They all look fun, and we can try them out the next time we go to a theme park!
Thank you everyone for all the wonderful time and learning experienced we shared everyday at Ohana. We will miss you all!
Sending Love and Hugs,
