World Book Day

April 23, 2026

Our morning started with excitement and giggles. We all dressed up as our favorite book characters and can’t wait to share my books with my friends!

S: I forgot my book… just kidding

R: Hiro is a train conductor

H: My book is in Japanese

P: I made this one

J: Look, Eddie is the Monkey King

A: I’m a pig from England

For circle time we revisited what we did yesterday, and we remembered that we were going to stay and help with our buddies.

  • Review

R: It’s Earth Day! We go to step park and eat lunch

J: we watered the flowers

P: When we come, the lights were off

K: Teachers will choose the job

Why?

H: Because everyone fights over the jobs

R: We cannot choose

What is a buddy?

R: buddy means your partner

What do partners do?

K: hold the hand

R: You help them

What do you do when teachers say, “Try again”?

R: Don’t do it again and listen to teacher

E: S. I love you

To introduce the idea of right, laws (rules), we started with a simple question; Do we need rules in the classroom?

  • Question of the day

I: Do you help the Earth?

S: Do we need…

H: Do we need rules in the classroom?

What are rules?

R: Something you don’t need or need to do

Do we need rules in the classroom?

J: No, because I already know everything

P: I want to change my mind

H: I know everything what we should do

K: I know… can I change?

R: Yes, we don’t want to hit people and push people

A: Yes, because we need to sit like a giraffe

E: Yes, because we need to listen.

I: I don’t know

R: If you don’t listen to rules, you might hit and you might get hurt.

Then we read, “Children Have Basic Rights”. This book introduced the idea that all children have important rights such as; right to learn and play , feel safe, and right to be treated with care and respect.

  • Book: Children Have Basic Rights by Elliot Paderowski

Who are children in this class?

R: Children are big people

E: Evita

Are teachers children?

Flowers: NO!

P: We are (the children)

  • Children’s Rights

What is the first?

S: (children have the right to) learn!

Second?

: have the right to safety

Third?

R: to hear (to be heard)

Fourth?

R: eat food

Fifth?

R: You help not to get sick. (right to health care)

What are your classroom rights?

Flowers: ????

Right means everyone get to do it…

R: eat lunch

K: go to park

R: Listen to teacher

I: we have right to drink

P: we can paint

S: we can do jobs

J: We can play

R: go to the toilet

J: join circle time

Next, we watched a short video about laws and rights. We learned that laws are rules that help protect people, and rights are things everyone should have, like being safe, being treated kindly, and having a chance to play. This helped us understand that rules are important because they take care of everyone in the community.

  • Video

We all have rights, but we can’t just do whatever you want.

R: I want to play..

If everyone does what they want, what will happen to our class?

J: A noisy class

S: a bad class.

We have laws (rules) in our classroom…

R: it’s important

You all have the right to play in our classroom, but we need to follow the rules. What are the rules when we play?

P: no building fighter jets

R: no punching

E: no grabbing

J: play nicely

Your responsibility is to follow them so our classroom will be safe. What is the correct answer to our question of the day?

Flowers: Yes!

Are you going to follow the rules?

Flowers: Yes!

  • I’s Book (Albert is Not Scared)

R: I am not scared of anything!

Are you a little scared of mommy and daddy?

R: *paused. Yes!

E: I am not scared of mommy or daddy. I could do anything I want.

Should we do anything we want?

Flowers: No

Have you been to an Amusement Park?

Flowers: Yes!

J: I went in Korea

R: I went to Disneyland

I: It goes up and down

P: Can I point? The ride is this one

R: It’s called a roller coaster

E: Me and Peggy go on this one before

P: I rode the dolphin one

S: Sana ride this (pirate ship)

R: It’s a merry go round

J: It’s a slow one

K: Can I point please? Train

Why is this your favorite part Isa?
