We found the Arctic!

Today is Wednesday, which means we are halfway through the Arctic! We started our morning crafting our own polar bear! We cut the shapes of a polar bear ; a circle, two semicircles and two lunes.  When we finished painting, we chose to save the animals from the icebergs or draw. Momoka drew a polar bear and so did Kiana!

M : I have one fish! Cold! (the ice) so cold!

I : Blue! (pointing at water)

Green! (stingray)

Fish! Iceberg!

K : don’t know my name (referencing her origami penguin)

Y : Mommy bear! (her drawing)

M: This is daddy bear, flower and balloon! (her drawings)

Today for story time we read, “Polar Bear’s Underwear!” by Tupera Tupera. This is a silly story about a polar bear and his mouse friend looking for Polar Bear’s missing underwear.

E : What animal is this?

M : Puppy!

I : White!

 M : Mouth is black!

K : It’s a polar bear!

E : The polar bear is not wearing underwear! Oh no!

M :  It’s dangerous!

E : Can we help find his underwear?
M : Yeah!

E : Whose underwear does this belong to? An animal or person?
M : I think animal!

K : I think a person!

I : Animal.

M : I don’t know…

Y : *Shrugs*

E : What about this one? It has treats.

M : Donuts!

K : Chocolate donut! My brother likes chocolate donuts!

M : Donut!

I: Pig!

M : I think pig!

Y : I don’t know…

M : Pig!

E : This underwear has flowers and it’s really small. Who could it be?

M : Flower, monkey!

M : Monkey!

K : Bear!

I: Monkey!

Y : Monkey!

K : She has flower underwear!

E: This underwear says, “I love mice”. Which animal likes mice?

M : Cat!

M : Cat or monkey!

Y : Cats!

I : Cat!

K:  Monkey!

For circle time, we talked about the Arctic and where to find the arctic on a map and globe. We looked all over the map and globe for the North and South Pole. We saw that it was all white, like snow! Speaking of snow, we learned how to make snow with two ingredients, shaving cream and baking soda! We also ripped our white painting to make ice caps and ice bergs for our window display. We added our origami penguins and polar bear craft to our Arctic.

E : Let’s look at the map and globe. Here is the North Pole and South Pole.

K : North Pole! Here is Hawaii!

M : Japan! *points on the map*

K : I am in Japan!

E : Let’s look at the globe, what color is the arctic?

M : White! Like snow!

E : How did the ice feel?

M : Hard!

E : Arctic animals can stand on ice caps.

K : He can stand on it? (Polar bear) It’s very very big!

After finishing our window art, we got ready for gym class. Once gym class finished, we had lunch and nap time. Thank you all for today, see you again tomorrow!

Love,

Petals
