Happy Tuesday! We had a wonderful day learning about South Africa 🇿🇦 with Shelley. We know that there are 11 official languages, and we learned how to say hello in all of them! Shelley taught us a song and dance in Afrikaans, and we had fun guessing the big five animal sounds!

CIRCLE TIME
We sang our hello song today trying to say our “full names”, but many of us are not sure what our family name is. As the year winds down, we will be becoming more confident in knowing this in preparation for graduation.
QUESTION OF THE DAY
A: Are you happy?
We asked everyone why they said yes or no.
A: Yes, because my dad is here. I like my dad.
I: No. Sad because my dad is in Hong Kong.
T: Yes, everyone is happy!
E: I’m happy because it was my birthday!
H: I’m happy because tomorrow I am going to ride the plane. I’m going to Hong Kong.
R: No, because my grandma died.
E: No, because one time something happened in my house. It was a fire. I think someone is cooking and forgot.
P: No, because my dad went to China.
J: No, because my uncle move to Korea.
We thought about how we could cheer up our friends, and took turns trying to make them smile and feel better.
E did a silly dance, but it didn’t work. E tried to give them a hug, but they didn’t want a hug. A thought that tickling them might work, but most didn’t want a tickle. R suggested making a flower out of paper, but that would take time to make and we wanted to cheer them up right away. They were all really great ideas, but in the end nothing seemed to change their feeling. We ended up getting stuck about what to do next. Although, when we’re not thinking about it, we naturally put smiles on each other’s faces all throughout the day! Let’s keep in mind what makes our friends smile and laugh so that we can use it when we see they are feeling down.
Love,
