Sweden Day

“Tack sa mycket,” which means thank you very much in Swedish. Many thanks to Er and Ha for sharing about their beautiful country, Sweden. They brought a big Swedish flag, which we enjoyed touching to feel its texture. Ha passed around some small Swedish flags as well which Ta liked waving while saying, “Flag! Flag!”. We enjoyed seeing a huge animal called a moose, which Erik said could be much taller than him! We could not imagine such a tall animal! We were not quite familiar with moose. Looking at its picture, we thought it was a cow. K and Ma said, “Moo moo moo!! When they first saw it. We enjoyed learning what kind of food children eat in Sweden. It is a combination of meatballs, mashed potatoes, cucumber and a special jam that is as sweet as the jam we know. They looked so delicious.  They also showed us red-painted horses which Ma and K enjoyed playing with. They brought toys that were similar to the items shown through the projector with them, so we were able to look and touch moose, red horses and the special tree.

Towards the middle of the presentation, we saw He and his family wearing beautiful crowns made of flowers and twigs. We learned that they put on these lovely flower crowns during a midsummer festival where people danced around a special tree. The tree has a very interesting shape. We felt lucky to watch the dance and also had the chance to dance it, too. In the dance, we pretended to be a frog and a pig. It was a fun dance! At the end of the presentation, Er and Ha taught us a fun song entitled “The Bear is Sleeping.” We pretended to be sleeping bears and at the end…. we woke up growling like bears!!! It was a fun and interesting Sweden day!

After the earthquake drill, we had a short circle time. As we started showing interest in colors, we had a bug/insect matching activity with big circles. We had bees, butterflies and dragonflies to choose from and then put them on the big circle that matched its color. Next time, we will try another set of colors. Matching colors was lots of fun!

We hope you had a wonderful Tuesday, too!
