Somebody Swallowed Stanley

As soon as we arrived at school, we went straight to the small table to play with the junk materials! We tilted the table and continued making a maze or used our imagination to make the junk table into other things like a coffee shop! We also continued turning old CDs into squiggly octopuses! After our free play time, we gathered in a circle and did our morning routine and sang, “Five Green Speckled Frogs” as we reviewed the numbers from 1 to 5.

K: I want to play Ukulele!

T: I want the xylophone.

K: Hmm… Drums!

Nimo: Who can help me update our calendar?

R: Me!

Nimo: What comes after 30 on the calendar?

T: Nothing on it.

R: I see one more!

K: Bye Bye June.

K: 7! July.

T: I know 7!

Nimo: Today is?

R: 1, Wednesday.

K: Sunny!

Our teachers finally set up the pool upstairs and we had a great time splashing with our friends! When we got back to Petals we read, “Somebody Ate Stanley” by Sarah Roberts and Hannah Peck.

K: *Pointed at Stanley* Neko-chan! No cat?

K: It’s a bag.

T: Cat bag!

T: I see fish, whale, jellyfish.

Nimo: What swallowed Stanley?

T: Shark!

K: Crocodile.

T: Mermaid!

K: Ah-cho!

T: Oh! Whale!

S: This bag? Daddy, Seri, shark!

K: Oh no, bird! A duck!

After our story, we sat down at a table to make our shakers! In the book, a boy took the plastic bag Stanley and turned him into a kite. Yesterday we read, “Clean Up!” where the characters turned all the plastic they picked up into a fish shaped recycle bin! Today, we wanted to try turning plastic bottles that are usually just thrown away into a toy we could play with! Our teachers laid out different collage materials along with a number card. In our own trays, we carefully counted the collage materials and took the amount that was shown on the cards. After we got all the materials and the right number of then, we carefully put them into our bottles. Once everyone was finished, we shook them and danced to Nimo’s guitar!

Thank you all for another fabulous day! Have a wonderful evening and we will see you all again tomorrow!

Love,
Petals
