The rain kept us inside today but the sunshine of our hearts shined right through it all!
This morning, we wrapped up working on our giant koi fish by practicing ripping up the colorful papers into even smaller pieces and pasting them down! It was quite a challenge to control the smaller pieces, fitting them exactly where we wanted them but also lots of fun! K and L came over and began by pasting lots of glue down to ready the surface for color! L picked out red pieces of paper, while K chose blue for his side and before they could put down their first slivers of paper, L came by! L likes purple and pasted as many as he could, while reminding his brother S to use the glue gently. S agreed, saying “no ban ban” to remind himself not to bang the glue but copy his friends in a side to side motion to use the glue stick properly. Way to go, friends!
At the sensory table, we combined the blocks and play doh for more tactile experience and to practice building structures like walls and more! H smiled away as he rolled clay balls with Liezel and pushed them down into flat circles! R teamed up with L to build a big wall decorated with clay balls! L also came over to help, watching first and then rolling more balls to share! They all three worked really hard to complete it and were so proud to have Gohsan show them how to make it strong and they built it all the way across the table! Great work!
Once we sat down for the morning meeting, we sang our greeting song and then joined Brandon by singing “wheels on the bus” and “baby shark” together! N was excited to see the guitar and came up to touch the strings with a huge smile! When we finished and the teachers asked us to search for our name cards, Brandon played a harmonica and N pretended to play his name card like a harmonica too! We gathered our name cards into a big red bucket and L helped his smaller friends locate theirs once he finished finding his. How thoughtful!
When everyone settled down, we read Y’s story about cooking pancakes! It was so much fun to see the little girl cooking yummy food in the kitchen! She looked just like Y! Y was so proud and said “hot cake oishii!” in Japanese. YUM!
After the story, we washed our hands and enjoyed our delicious snacks before seeing that the teachers set up some cute houses for us to climb into! N and T were both so excited to say hello to their friends as they entered with a smile. N laughed when T played peek a boo with everyone! What a wonderful house to play in! Nearby, R and L were hard at work building a big house out of jumbo blocks! It was HUMONGOUS! N and K added some blocks to the top side of the house and it accidentally tipped over! OH no! But that did NOT stop the fun as they then used it as a tunnel to crawl under. Way to go thinking outside the BLOCK!
Shelley came by and gave us some air pouches to poke with match sticks! It was lots of fun to poke and pick at the air pockets while hearing the air fizzle out! Y was fascinated by the sound and shared a stick with S before everyone was excited to pop and poke the air pockets! It was so much fun! Thanks Shelley!
Just before lunch we gathered under the night sky and went on a bear hunt with the teachers! We used a flashlight to search high and low for the bear until we finally found him relaxing under the stars! To help us settle in for lunch time, we rested and sang “twinkle twinkle little star” together under the beautiful lights just before washing our hands and enjoying our lunches.
We hope you all have a wonderful afternoon and look forward to a brighter tomorrow!
Love, Buds
