Happy Friday! This week we’ve continued the theme of living things as we learned all about how plants breathe and make food. Now we’re thinking about homes and how they protect us and animals from weather.
I: Do you know rabbit can’t go out in winter? They go to their home or a hole, or underground, or inside a fall down tree.
R: Platypus lives underground.
I: Owl sleep in the tree, wolf live in the forest, and rabbit lives in a burrow.
R: What’s a burrow?
I: It’s the hole in the ground. There is one door and a million holes. The fox cannot find the rabbit.
R: Moles live underground. Lots of holes.
We learned that sometimes homes can be called shelter. What does shelter mean?
K: Shelter is when something dangerous, people coming and make a shelter.
R: A small animal can use a box, and it can protect you.
We saw many pictures of animal and human shelters and homes. Then we named them and matched them together.
E: Hive
I: Cave
L: Birdhouse
K: Bird and nest.
I: Cave and bear.
L: Bee and hive.
R: Dog and dog house.
T: Tree and monkey.
S: Human and home.
After that, we tried making a shelter for figurines to protect them from danger and weather. We were given various crafting materials and worked in teams of three. After we finished, we tested them by simulating wind and rain to see if the shelters worked well.
Have a nice weekend!
Love,
