Prickly, Pointy, Cactus

We had another fantastic day at school! We had a new craft to work on in the morning. Our teachers prepared pictures of cacti and a big pile of paper clay. We chose a type of cactus we would like to make and used our little hands to mold the clay. Once we got what we wanted, our teachers put them on the drying rack. We played with the kitchen toys and the stickle bricks. We also enjoyed sensory play with the rice!

After we packed away our toys, we did a quick review of the habitat we were learning about then looked at a book from National Geographic about animals. There was a section in the book with desert animals.

E: The Desert!

M: Lots of sand.

E: A snake! *Pointed at the picture of the coral snake*

I: Red!

M: Black, white.

M: And brown.

M: We don’t touch the snake.

H: No touch!

M: I want to count (the meerkats). 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6… 6!

E: (Desert Jerboa) So cute!

M: Small!

I: Wow!

M: (Horned Lizard Spikey! Ouchie!

E: It’s too sharp (to touch)

I: Oh! Camel! Humps!

Before we sang “Alice The Camel”, we did a quick review of the numbers from 1 to 7. We each chose a number and would do a short solo part.

Nimo: Alice the camel has…

H: One hump!

M: Two humps.

I: Three humps!

E: Four humps.

Y: Five humps!

Nimo: Six humps.

M: Seven humps!

Petals: Go Alice go!

G read, “My Granny Went to Market: A Round-the-World Counting Rhyme” by Stella Blackstone and Christopher Corr. We looked at pictures around the world and counted the things the granny bought. We thanked G for the lovely story then listened to our teachers for the next activity.

We sat down and looked at our, “Artist of the Week”, Georgia O’Keeffe. She did many lovely paintings of the desert and cacti. We looked at a few of her masterpieces and talked about the colors and shapes we saw. We then split into two groups, one group would sit with Esmi and paint the background for our cactus diorama and the other would do an obstacle course with Nimo. After our friends were finished with their painting, we swapped stations.

Thank you all for another wonderful day! Have a great evening and we will see you again tomorrow!

Love,

Petals
