Philippine Day!

A rainy Monday to everyone! Petals started our busy week by preparing for Mother’s Day. We started crafting our decorations, props and gifts for the celebration.

For our circle time, we sang and danced to, London Bridge Is Falling Down. Some friends enjoyed it a lot, and they asked if we could do it again. After settling down, we discussed Mom’s Day. Petals shared the things our mom’s do for all of us.

Evita: What do we need to do for Mom’s day?

Once we sat down, Evita revisited the lessons we have been learning this past few weeks. And she  shared  things about the Philippines. We learned that it is warm here all year round (it’s a tropical country),  saw the smallest monkey and the perfect cone shaped active volcano that can only be seen in the Philippines. To continue our learning of different languages, we tried counting in Filipino (Tagalog).

J: It goes boom! ( mimics an eruption)

Evita : Our traditional wear is Baro’t saya. 

R: Hat! green!

Evita : The traditional game is Sungka.

Petals: Isa, dalawa, tatlo, apat lima, anim, pito, walo, siyam, sampu

To make this day extra special, we crafted our own  jeepney ( common mode of transportation in the Philippines) using old shoe boxes. Our teacher  cut out the boxes, and we glued some construction paper to finish off our jeepney craft. We also attached a string so we can drag our jeepneys to different places, just like the real ones.

Evita: How do we go from place to place here in Japan?

R: Helicopter

M: shinkansen

R: Airplane. Too many airplanes!

J: bus!

R: Bus in Japan too,right?

While making the Jeepney, we discussed why is the way it is. 

Evita: Why is there an opening here?

E: because people go inside

Evita: Who sits here? ( driver’s side)

M: teachers

E: driver!

Evita: Why do we need windows here?

R: because we cannot see

M: I am going to Disney Sea (driving her jeepney around the class)

E: I am going to Disney Sea too

R: broom, broom

D: I’ll go back to Korea
