Making Mountains!

Welcome to a new week! We had another wonderful day and welcomed a new friend Y to Petals Class. He was very excited to play and craft with us! To start, we began our morning craft making a moose. We used brown paint on our hands to make a stamp for the antlers. After we finished with the first step of our craft, we played with play-dough, the kitchen, and toy animals. We went to the park right after to avoid the hot temperature later in the day.

When we came back, we started with story time. Today we began reading, “Runaway Bunny” by Margaret Wise Brown. The story is about a rabbit going on adventures trying to run away from mommy rabbit.

Esmi : What color is this page?

M : White!

Esmi : How will mommy rabbit catch the runaway bunny?

D : Get some carrots!

M : White and black again!

    Mountain!

D : So high!

Esmi : What is tall or high?

D : Grandpa lives on floor 31!

Y : S says I’m big…

M : Daddy!

Then it was circle time. We learned how mountains are formed and what they are made out of. First, Esmi handed each of us a rock and we used our hands to explore its texture and look at the shape.

M: It’s a rock! Hard

Esmi: What shapes do you see?

D: My rock is a Triangle

Y: Triangle!

Y: Egg shape.

Esmi moved on to the next part of our circle time by showing us a picture of a mountain.

D: I see so many triangles! 1,2,3… 12! 12 Triangles!

Esmi: How many big mountains do you see?

H: Two!

Esmi did a cool science experiment with towels to show us how mountains are formed. First, she stacked many towels on top of each other.

D: Blue towel!

S: Red.

M: That is light blue!

Then she used two panels and put them on each side. She slowly pushed them together and the towels in the middle started to get squished and made a mountain!

Esmi: The pressure pushes the plates together and they form mountains. Can you say “pressure”?

H: Pressure!

Petals: Pressure!!

We each got to try the experiment then we got into our swimwear to enjoy water play in Buds!

Thank you all for another fabulous day! We hope you stay cool in this blazing heat and we will see you all again tomorrow!

Love,

Petals
