We had another great day in our summer school class! We started our morning finishing up our Tissue Paper River craft then started working on our handprint fish. We chose a color of paint and our teachers painted our hand! We printed the shape of our hand on the paper then cut them out. We used the glue to stick googly eyes and added shiny scales to our special little fish!
We packed away the play dough and washed the paint off of our hands, then got ready to go to the park. We went early again today so we could play at the park before it got too hot. We took a few tools with us today for our special “River” activity! Under the shade, we worked together with Flowers Class to make a big mountain then poured some water on top. We watched the water flow down the mountain pushing the sand along the way. After a while we noticed we had made a small river! We continued pouring water on the mountain and watched how the river got longer and longer, and eventually overflowed and created a wetland! We got some leaves and animals to decorate our River!
We washed our hands and toys and then made our way back to school. We sang some songs then Nimo used the puppets to tell us the story of Tanabata. It’s a little early for Tanabata because the actual event is on July 7th, but it was a good story for our topic for today. We look at more pictures of the river and brainstormed what kind of animals live near the river and what foods they eat. We remembered from our book “The Wide-Mouthed Frog”, that frogs eat flies, birds eat worms, and mice eat nuts. We will dive more into animals tomorrow!
S: Bird, blue!
M: Mouse is brown.
M: Crocodile!
Nimo: What other animals do you think live in the river?
M: Fish!
E: *Pointed at the book* Frog!
Thank you all for another lovely day! Have a wonderful evening and we will see you again tomorrow!
Love,
Petals
