We learned that train drivers are very important community helpers because they carry a lot of passengers every day. We also discussed how train drivers need to be alert and focused to keep everyone safe. In Japan, they do “Shisa Kanko”, pointing and calling to keep train drivers from making mistakes.
- Question of the day
L: Do train drivers need to watch carefully?
M: Yes, because it’s dark!
P: Yes, because they might miss the stop
L: Yes, because they need to drive carefully or they might crash
What do they need to look out for?
L: Trees, tunnels, and everything else.
M: other trains?
E: If you don’t watch out and there is a person and it crashes they need to… it’s gonna hit the person.
Next, it was time to practice being train drivers! Together we set up train tracks in the classroom and took turns being the train driver. Just like real train drivers, we listen and watch carefully to the “Stop” and “Go” sign. We also get to practice making train announcements! It was a lot of fun to be train drivers!
What else do train drivers look for?
M: For example the train tire. It will crash.
What is the signal for stop?
M: stoplight.. Red!
What color if “GO”?
M: green!
Have you ridden the train?
Flowers: Yes!
J: Sometimes they go Chuchu!
- Chinese Day / Face Changing Show
Today was also Chinese day and we continued celebrating the Chinese New Year. Vivian and Summer came to our class and made Goodluck bag charms with us! Leo also prepared a wonderful Face Changing Show for us. We watched with amazement and lost count on how many faces we saw today!
W: I am scared
A: I am scared. I want mommy
W: Look! It’s not scary!
A: It’s so cool
W: Yes, so cool!
It was an exciting day for us! Thank you, Leo, Summer and Vivian, for sharing about the Chinese culture with us. See you all tomorrow!
