Japanese Calligraphy

We began our week playing with friends and making cakes with playdough. We made strawberry cake, chocolate banana cake and stars. For our craft, we continued to tape our photos to the oni background we painted. Our morning free play was cut short because we had a special guest, L’s mom E.

E taught us about calligraphy. She told us we could write Kanji or Katakana, she wrote everyone’s name in Katakana. We learned “Shodo” is the way of writing, artistically and expressively.  After learning how to write our names, we were able to do it by ourselves or draw a picture. We gave a big thank you to E and continued into circle time.

A : A criss cross apple sauce!
L : How about me!
Nimo : Is Noah here today?
E : NO!

Petals : Welcome Lucy!

M : Monday, February 9!

E : Sunny!

Esmi : Who was here this morning?

L : E!

M : Lily’s mommy!

Esmi : What did we do with Emi?

M : We draw!

L : Pumpkin!

H : Dog!

A : Anpanman!
K : Strawberry cake!

Today we read, “Here we are” by Oliver Jeffers. We learned a little bit about space and the planet we live on.

H : Big! Small! Twinkle Twinkle Little Star!

L : Space!

M : Moon!

H : Cloud… its small!

A : See the ABC!

M : Land!

Esmi : What lives in water?

L : Fish!

M : Turtles!

H : Big fish, yellow fish!

L : Octopus! Dolphin!

M : I swim in the bath like this!

Esmi : What do we see on land?

L : Mountain!

A : Tree!
R : *touches cactus*

Before going to the park, we played with a little bit of snow Shelley gave us from the balcony. We touched, held and made little snowmen! Thank you all for today and see you tomorrow!

Love,

Petals
