We started our terrific Tuesday in Flowers by sharing our feelings. Some friends were happy, while some were excited and hungry. One thing was for sure; we came ready to have fun today😊
After counting the number of friends who came to school in English, Japanese, Hebrew, and Chinese, we had read a short story. Today’s story was a short one and is called, “It’s Okay When Someone Says No”. We shared what our moms and dads tell us when we get mad after someone says no to us.
Mi: Mommy say “control shinasai!”.
Yu: So bad.
M: Control yourself. Calm down.
We also talked about some things that are not considered a good way of dealing with our upset emotions, and agreed that it is a good idea that we take a deep breath to calm down.
QUESTION of the DAY (Do leaves have holes?)
Continuing our topic yesterday, we tried to examine the leaves of the plants. To answer this question, we shared our ideas about leaves:
Yu: Leaf has holes, but not much.
To: The caterpillar eat it, so holes.
Zo: (Holes) very, very small.
Mi: It looks like a melon.
We looked at a picture of a leaf that was seen under a microscope. We saw some holes! As we planned to go to the park, we thought it would be a good idea to see these holes! We wondered why do leaves have holes.
Mi: So, they don’t break.
Sh: To bring air to people.
To: They have eggs for the caterpillar.
O: When it’s night, leaf gonna break and caterpillar come out and eat.
It fascinates us to realize that leaves have holes. We learned that these holes are called stomata. For homework, we will check how to say “stomata” and how it functions. We were so eager to know the answer, so we asked for a clue. The clue is that it takes in something through the stomata and gives off something that people need! We are looking forward to hearing your ideas about stomata tomorrow.
Please remember to wear your Ohana T-shirt tomorrow.
Lots of love,
