Happy Thanksgiving Buds families! Today we want to extend a big thanks to T’s family for coming to teach us about Thanksgiving, share a cute story and craft!
On the front table, we continued to create felt sculptures by painting thick glue onto cardboard. There were lots of soft colorful shapes for us to choose from and stick on. The glue felt very sticky when we touched it but we enjoyed making them so much!
At the back table, we poked and decorated our cinnamon play doh with colorful rainbow sticks! We made animals, houses and more. L made a cute hedgehog with her rainbow sticks. She smiled when she handed it to Brandon. Nearby, the Buds friends were invited to come and help cut slices of cucumber and tomatoes for our Thanksgiving friendship snacks! We each took turns joining Tamara in carefully slicing the delicious vegetables up. What a treat!
CIRCLE TIME
Before we knew it, it was time for us to clean up and welcome our visitor VIPs for the day, T’s mother and grandmother! Guess what? They wore matching Thanksgiving socks! T’s grandmother explained to us that Thanksgiving was originally celebrated in America long ago when people first arrived on boats to call it their new home. They made friends with the Native Americans who taught them to catch, hunt and grow their own food! Which captures the true spirit of Thanksgiving, to share!
T’s grandmother read the story “The Thankful Pumpkin” by Julia Zheng. This book taught us to be thankful for the things that we enjoy and make our lives special! Suddenly, T’s mom invited us up to decorate a pumpkin to make it resemble a beautiful turkey! There were many feathers that had words to be thankful for on them, some read special things like “Ohana School”, “Mommy”, “Daddy”, “Grandparents” and more! It was so nice to be invited up and to pick a feather to stick into the pumpkin! What a great way to celebrate Thanksgiving!
