Happy Birthday!

Today the Buds Class celebrated the birthday of our very own K! He turned 3 years old and today his mom and dad came to help us celebrate the special day! Thank you N family!

On the front table today, we pretended to travel around town on top of our town puzzle! T, H and T loved scooting the little cars along and stacking up buildings for their little community! We love building and creating with our hands and recently we love to pretend to be shop keepers! Nearby, some of us worked on our self portraits to go inside our Ohana passports for international months. Y picked red, yellow, brown and blue to finish his picture. He used the brown to make his face and dotted blue, afterwards coloring the flowers on the picture yellow.

T used grey and brown to finish hers and very gently stuck on her eye stickers just the way she wanted! We love creating in Buds and we are also very capable using our hands and fingers to complete wonderful works of art!

On the back table, we practiced punching vehicle stamps into clay and sculpting it with different tools. M flattened a pancake shape and stuck on a helicopter stamp! K enjoyed gathering lumps of clay and making a big ball. K made an airplane shape and flew it around the room! ZOOM!

In the free play area, we discovered donuts, salad and candied apples! Y put as many vegetables into his blue bowl as he could. L was happily pretending to be a shop keeper and serving her friends a salad bowl with the tongs. L carried her donuts to the pretend kitchen and pretended to bake them a little more inside the oven. YUM! Do you like to help mom and dad in the kitchen at home?

Once we cleaned up and gathered for circle time, placed our name cards and settled down, we reviewed what we did at the Miwa coffee shop yesterday! We learned that to get a treat or beverage, we must first pay money for it.

CIRCLE TIME

Brandon: “where is this place?” (pointing to home)

T: “home!”

Brandon: “and where is this place?” (pointing to school)

T: “school!”

Today we learned that we would also celebrate our friend Kengo’s birthday!

Brandon: “how old are you know Kengo?”

K: “I’m 3!”

Yay! Happy birthday buddy!

After the applause finished for K, we acted out how we are supposed to buy goods from a shop! The perfect way we pretended today was to buy a pretend cup of chocolate milk! Brandon gave us some wooden coins to use for money and invited some friends to come up and pour a cup to enjoy! Henry came and volunteered to pour chocolate milk for K.

Brandon: “what do we need to buy something to eat or drink?”

T: “money”

K then handed his coin to H and received his pretend cup of chocolate milk! Soon, everyone wanted to try! It was so much fun to pretend to buy a yummy chocolate milk from our friends! Sometimes we spilled the milk and giggled together but it made the experience even more fun! This was a great practice for our hand and eye coordination and to observe how a typical social interaction occurs in daily life within our community!

Once we wrapped up and cleaned up the chocolate milk, we gobbled up our snacks and invited some special guests into the class! It was K’s mom and dad!

They came in and we sang happy birthday as a class for K before his dad read us a cute story about what we would do if we became a whale called “If I Were A Whale” by Anne Wilkinson. The story was so special and it had tactile sections with different textures we could feel!

Once we finished reading the story, K’s mom opened up a big bag and K gave all his buddies a gift from the bag! It was a bag of bubbles! Thanks Kengo! T then jumped up and handed K his special birthday card with a message from the teachers and pictures of all his Buds friends. What a special day!

Happy Birthday K! Thank you for sharing this special day with us!

Thanks so much for a great day everyone!

Love,

Buds
