Happy Monday! It’s the last week of summer school! This week the theme is Hammer and Glue! On Friday, we painted wood, and today we used POSCA markers to make them into trains!
CIRCLE TIME
We reviewed all of the themes from the past five weeks.
R: Metal can bend?
M: We made a tent!
R: Fabric.
D: Paper.
E: Plastic.
D: Weaving.
We’ve made many things out of lots of different materials this summer! Let’s see what we can do with a hammer and glue.
QUESTION OF THE DAY
K: Can you make something with wood?
E: Tree is wood.
We looked around the class to see what was made of wood.
R: The floor?
K: Maybe this shelf? But it’s soft.
K: Door.
It was quite difficult to tell which things were really wood and what just looks like wood. The floor looks like wood but doesn’t sound like wood. The door looks like wood, but magnets stick to it. We had a hard time finding something that we knew for sure was wood.
We expanded on E’s point about wood coming from trees. We looked at some different stages of the life of a tree and the steps it goes through to become a wooden toy. We found lots of toys in the classroom made of wood, especially blocks.
We used the blocks in our classroom to build something. Team 1 made a building, Team 2 made a train station, and Team 3 made Tokyo Tower.
