Hagoita-Making!

Happy Tuesday! Our tiny muscles in our hands and fingers were in full work out today😊 Morning activities were focused on working on our fine motor skills. Please read on to hear about our fun adventures today.

MORNING ACTIVITIES

For table activities, we enjoyed playing with wooden puzzles. Ln and Ta sat right next to each other and “communicated” really well while working together to complete the puzzles. No and Ta were drawn to the puzzles with different locks to open to discover pictures hidden beneath the doors. Although there were challenging locks, they persisted in completing them and when they could not, they would say to the teacher, “Help please!”. Shuju and Rosalie loved using the kitchen tongs to pick different vegetables and put them in the bowls. On the tuff table, we had colorful cylinders and boxes with holes in them. Ma and Se took turns in trying to check which cylinders could go in the holes, and which would not. During the activity, they tossed the boxes and started stacking the cylinders! They smiled when they fell and enjoyed stacking them again.

For our arts and crafts, we started making our hagoita paddles with milk/juice cartons. Hagoita paddles are Japanese traditional wooden paddles used to play during the New Year’s. Ta and He had a great time peeling off the stickers and sticking them on their hagoita all by themselves. K smilingly joined them and was so happy as he reached for the markers and started scribbling on his hagoita. La and Lo came to join the art table and were focused on painting their daruma craft. Lo seemed surprised that she was using a toothbrush for painting that she kept on checking it😊 La looked at the sample daruma and started painting her daruma with golden paint! We are so proud of our creative artwork!

CIRCLE TIME

Our circle time started with a story using a felt board. It was a song and a story. It’s called There Were Five in the Bed.  Here’s an interesting conversation we had:

               Vieda: (showed the bed)

               Ta: Monkey!

No: (put his hand on his cheek and pretended to sleep)

               Sh: Monkey!

Vieda: Do you have a blanket?

               No: Yeah!

               Vieda: (showed the bears)

               Taiga: Monkey!

After singing the song, we all said. “Bed, blanket, pillow!”. Then Ta said, “Bears!” and we counted them, “one, two, three, four, five”.

Vieda: Are you sad with you are alone, like the little bear?

               Ly: Eehhh!

               Ta: Yes!

ATTENDANCE Activity

We love putting our name tags on the board. Before doing so, Vieda asked, “What is the name of our school?” Ta quickly replied, “OHANA!”. Then, we started singing our song as we put our name tags on the board. When everyone was done, we counted them and put the numerals next to our names. We tried our best to say the number 12!

Remember the craft we made this morning? We looked at a real wooden hagoita and got excited to see Brandon and Vieda play it like tennis! Ta and No tried playing it with their own hagoita. Next time, everyone can try playing it during free play. We can’t wait!

What a terrific Tuesday it was! We hope you enjoyed your day, too! Please remember to come in your Ohana T-shirt tomorrow.

Lots of love,

Buds XOXO
