Ohana International School is hosting "Give", a fundraising event that provides educational opportunities for children in Tohoku, Japan and Cambodia, on March 16th, 2017. Last year's fundraising effort helped raised more than JPY 1.2 million to support on-going community programs in Minami Sanriku and help build a community playground in Ajishima.  

Our Beneficiaries

We work carefully to find partners where we can create projects that have a tangible difference in the lives of children, as well as ensure that the money raised goes directly to the cause. This year, our funds will support the following:

•  Place to Grow is a space for creativity, imagination, and inspiration to flourish in post-disaster communities. Survivors and outside volunteers connect, bringing an explosion of positive energy to the community. This connection creates hope, resilience and opportunity, which is crucial to long term recovery. In Japan, monthly interactive children's workshops and annual inter-generational community parties are the core activity of Place to Grow.
• Together with World Assistance for Cambodia, we are building a kindergarten on to an existing primary school in rural Cambodia. Our goal is to provide the head start that children need to be successful in the classroom, build critical life skills, find new opportunities and ultimately, realize their dreams.

207.03.16 Live Auction Items

1. Mixed Media - Buds

We call our art "Fireworks". Our children love to surprise us with their colorful personalities. These qualities are what we also look forward to just like waiting for the fireworks to go up in the sky and paint the clouds with their colors.  

We created this piece by using the sponges and rollers. Some of our friends dipped the sponges and squeezed them as much as they could until it created beautiful patterns on our canvas. For our last layer, we used our spray bottles with paint. These created an amazing effect because our painting became more dynamic and gave more life to it. 

A perfect memento to celebrate your child’s first school experience.

2. Mixed Media - Petals

We chose to play with color for our triptych (three related paintings). We first brushed the canvasses with water and then put small drops of paint on them and watched to see what happened to the colours. At times the colours dispersed on the canvas and then we also saw that they were absorbed into the canvas. 

We decided to make each canvas have something that linked it, to the one before or after........ and at the same time, had something different. We blew some drops of paint with straws, we tilted the canvas, and finally we used black paint, making lines almost as if they were trees in a magical forest.

3. Mixed Media - Flowers

As part of our international month activities we have been investigating countries they would love to visit, thethings you can do there, the weather and the environment.  One of the most popular destination activities we discussed was swimming in the ocean with all the animals, seeing all the flowers, trees and living things in the valleys and mountains and lastly winter skiing, snowball fights and snowmen. We used the blue background for all the backgrounds and then used a variety of media to build up the images on top.

6. Adopt a Dog for a Day with Darren

One lucky family will get to spend a fun filled afternoon with Dash at Arisugawa Park. Dash is a 2 year old border collie - smart, full of energy, and wonderful with children. Darren will teach you how to approach dogs, treat them well, and care for them - including how to walk a dog, feed and groom them. Your kids will love playing with Dash as he performs tricks and obeys commands, like sitting, heeling, rolling over, spinning, and jumping. Spend an afternoon with a beautiful dog that loves to be loved! For children aged 3 and up; previous experience not necessary. Fun with Dash must be scheduled at least 2 weeks in advance, on a weekday, after 2pm.
