Fruit salad!

 Wednesday, 21st May: Fruit salad!

Today is our third day of “I Can Cook” week at school and we had a blast making some yummy fruit salad!

On the first table we had some colorful puzzles set out. A liked the big purple seashell and sat down to try the purple puzzle. She was quickly joined by E who liked the pretzel piece on the brown puzzle. S found a red wagon on the table and tried his best to fit it into the red puzzle.

On the second table we continued adding layers onto our canvas art. Today we used a toothbrush to flick green paint across the canvas. L did a great job adding green flicks here and there.

In the free play area we had the toy kitchen and food toys set up. K was delighted when he picked up a chicken fillet with tongs. Meanwhile T was busy washing everything in the kitchen sink.

On the small table together with Tamara we were all excited to help cut up strawberries, oranges and bananas for our snack. E, who was wearing a strawberry dress, was keen to help cut the strawberries. H was very focused when cutting up oranges. S showed off his skills by firstly peeling and then cutting the banana. L was so interested she stayed and watched all her friends cutting fruit. While we were cutting fruit some of us had some super quick hands and we managed to sneak a few pieces into our mouths! Just a little taste test and it was delicious!

During circle time we learned the names of a few more fruits. We chopped up plastic apples, grapes, pears and pineapples then tossed them into a bowl to make a pretend fruit salad. Then we sang “Fruit Salad yummy yummy” by the Wiggles and “Apples and Bananas” while we danced with ribbons. A and I both had so much fun flying their ribbons through the air. We also had fun singing the book “Peanut butter and jelly” by Nadine Bernard Westcott.

We couldn’t wait to wash our hands and get ready for snack time so we could eat our fruit salad. N did a great job spooning his fruit by himself into a bowl. R’s eyes lit up when she saw the fruit salad, she was so excited to see the huge bowl full of fruit. K scooped lots of fruit to go with his sweet potato snack. L showed us she had strawberries for a snack, the same that was in the fruit salad. When we finished our fruit we held up our empty bowl to ask for more, we were so sad when our yummy fruit salad was all gone.

After snacking we headed to the park for a play with the balls. We had fun running around with our teachers and throwing the balls. We stopped for plenty of water breaks and then headed back to school ready for lunch and a nap.
