First day of Winter School

Welcome to Winter School Petals and Flowers friends! We welcomed our Petals friends to Flowers this morning and enjoyed teaching them Flowers routines in the morning. When we were finished with our jobs, we sat down at the craft table and did some fun painting! We were given two colors of paint, white and silver. We used a fork to freely paint on our paper, some of us made dots, some of us smeared the paint with the back of the fork. We painted as little or as much as we wanted and when we felt we were finished, we told our teachers and they took our paintings outside to dry. Our friends had a great time playing with the dress-up corner, kitchen toys, and blocks!

We packed away our toys then ate our snacks. When everyone was finished eating, we got ready for the park and had our first circle time. We had Reiri count how many friends we had today, we had 14 children. Reika counted how many teachers we had, Nimo, Sayaka, and Liezel which made 3. Our teachers had us write 14 and 3 and then asked us what 14 and 3 would be if we put them together. We tried counting teachers and kids inside our head. We then wrote our guesses on the white board.

We counted everyone together with our teachers and we counted 17! 14 and 3 together make 17! Shelley came into Flowers Class and we added her to the count which made 18!

Before we went to the park we played a quickly little Alphabet game. Nimo used a big alphabet poster and pointed at a letter and made the sound of the letter. We had to guess who’s name it started with the same letter and sound.

At the park we had a great time playing ball and tag! When we got back from the park we gathered around for one more circle time. We started by singing some winter songs then we talked about our question of the day. In Flowers class, there is a question on the board called the, “Question of the Day” which we need to read and answer yes or no.  Today’s question was, “Are you ready to have ‘SNOW’ much fun?”. “Snow Much Fun” is our theme for this winter school and the question was asking if we were ready to have so much fun with snow! About half of our friends put their names on “yes” and the other half on “no”.

Before Nimo read us a story we talked a little bit about snow:

A: Snow is very cold thing, it’s Ice.

B: Snow is when you go and put your snow boots, ski things, and you go skiing downhill and you play with snow.

R: Snow is coming in Winter Holidays and you can play.

E: I forgot.

T: Snow is snowflakes coming out. When it’s raining it is not snowflakes.

Nimo: Where does snow come from.

B: The sky.

A: The blue sky, really really high.

K: Crab…It’s not snow.

Shelley: Can we eat snow?

S: We can eat snow very yummy from the sky. We can eat tiny bit.

K: Yes we can eat.

B: Last year I ate snow when I was skiing.

H: It’s not Kakigori.

T: When you eat a lot of snow, you get a big cough.

A: If you take a big bite, you gonna get sick.

Nimo read us a story from Eric Carle called, “Dream Snow”. It was a fun little book about snow and counting! There was a little guessing game too which we really enjoyed! After our story we played a quick, “I Spy” game and then had our lunch!

We had a wonderful first day of Winter School! Have a lovely evening everyone and see you tomorrow!

Love,

Petals and Flowers
