Community Helper: Farmers

Today, we had a fun and exciting day learning about farmers and the animals they take care of.

  • Classroom Jobs

M: (Calendar helper) February 25 (counts in Japanese)

E: *counts in English

J: (Attendance helper) Sarara, Seigo (not here today)

M:  *counts girls in Flowers class in Hebrew

A: *counts boys in Flowers class in English

Our question of the day is, do farmers help raise animals? We began discussing what is the meaning of the word “raise”. We learned that “raise” means helping animals grow and take care of them.  As we continued discussing we also learned that there are two kinds of farmers, plant(crop) farmers and animal farmers.

  • Question of the day

K: Do farmers help animals?

S: Do farmers help rise animals?

What does raise mean?

M: erase! Like go away

K: It’s like run

K: race car?

Mom and dad raised all of you from a baby.

M: you mean you sleep and drink milk

E: They just drink their mommy’s milk

J: When it’s your birthday you turn to 2 years old, 3 years old………

Do you think farmers help animals grow?

E: No, because the people who take care of them do it already.

E: No, sometimes they have bad germs and they can die

J: No, sometimes they have bad germs

K: Yes, if they take care of the animal they can grow any tie they like

M: No, because cows eat by themselves

A: I don’t know

L: Yes, they need to. If they don’t they will grow smaller.

What do farmers do?

M: They get milk in the cow

What do they need to do before milking the cow?

E: They have to put a bucket under

K: massage (before milking the cow)

S: They need to feed them!

To understand what animal farmer do, we did some hands-on activities. Using a rubber glove filled with (pretend)milk we pretended to milk a cow.

How do farmers get milk from the cow?

A: can I point? *Points at the cow’s udder

K: we need special machine. Attached it there

I: (We use) hands. We squeeze

What is our cow’s name?

Then we sprayed shaving cream (pretend wool) on top of our sheep and pretended to shave it using carton shears.

W: I want to try

P: The sheep is not crying

S: It’s my turn!

For the last activity, we played a fun and active game! We all pretended to be farmers gathering eggs from our chicken coop. We had fun balancing the eggs we got from the chickens with a spoon!

What do farmers do with all the eggs they get from the chickens?

E: They hatch them, eat them!

S: Sell them

Where do they sell them?

S: In the market!

Before our day ends, S did a “Show and Tell” for us. He brought an Eiffel tower souvenir and a snow globe.  We asked a lot of questions and S let us touch it. It was so cool!

K: Why it look like Tokyo Tower?

S: If you look good, it’s not. Eiffel Tower is in France. Tokyo Tower is red and white and Eiffel Tower is gray.

M: Why did you buy it?

S: I didn’t buy it. My brother bought it.

K: What is the letter?

S: it says place…no Paris! It’s a place in France

K: Why it’s not very light?

S: Because it’s made of metal

E: Why is that one shiny and that one not?

S: This is 30% gold and 70% metal while this one is just metal

R: You go to Paris before?

S: Never!

K: What is inside?

S: I think there are restaurants and shops

E: I went inside the top

S: I don’t think you can go all the way to the top.

We had fun being farmers today! Have a nice day and see you all tomorrow!

Love,

Flowers
