Can You Dig It?!

April 16, 2026

Thankful Thursday, everyone!

Today on the front table, some of us began work on our paper trees that we will use to decorate our classroom in anticipation of Earth Day! We used our fingers in challenging motion to twist green paper strips to twirl and then tuck them into the middle of our paper plate platforms. Once the leaves of our trees were secure, we then painted large brown trunks on the bottoms to complete our awesome Earth Day trees!

On the back table, we found a red, green and blue box that had a secret set of big and small circles inside! We pinched, rolled and stacked these wooden circle shapes to create a round and rolly landscape across the table. We even had lots of fun using the boxes as pretend houses as some of us pretended the circles were a family.

In the free play area, the salad bowl was out and ready with crisp and fresh veggies! There were even candied apples and donuts fresh from the Buds bakery. The teachers gave us some pretend ice cream and we soon had a Buds festival full of delicious food! We used tongs and play forks to pick up and pass food items to our friends. The pretend kitchen is one of our most favorite places to play!

After we cleaned up and settled down for circle time, we sang our new hello song and then Brandon invited us to review circle and square shapes! We used the large square and circle on the floor to help us organize the pictured shapes one by one. Brandon asked us what each picture was and whether or not it belonged to the square group of items or the circle group of items. It was lots of fun to match the shapes to their proper homes! We love squares and circles!

Soon after, we gobbled up our snacks and headed out to Step Park, where some of us took turns digging up the wild grass in our school flower bed. At Step Park, we have a very special space saved just for our Buds Class, to cultivate the soil and plant beautiful flowers as part of our community outreach and beautification! We began yesterday but there was still so much to do! We discovered worms, grub larvae and we think we even saw a lizard scuttle away in the dirt! The soil is looking great so far and we can’t wait to plant our flowers next week!

Thank you for a beautiful day friends!

Love,

Buds
