Hello friends
If you look carefully at the names of our teachers here today, you will see that Ayaka and Sayaka have a lot in common. We are playing some games with initial sounds and we learnt that Sayaka is Ayaka with a “s” sound in front of it. We also had so much fun when we sang our snack and lunch time songs because we changed the initial sound for both of them. We sang “Shack shime shoes shown shown shown” instead of “Snack time goes down, down, down”. Just before lunch we sang our lunch time song and instead of “Lunch time goes down, down, down” we sang “Lunch lime, lows lown, lown, lown”. We laughed after we had sung the songs as they sounded really funny even though we did the actions like we always do.
At our activity tables we had more lids of plastic bottles so that we could all have the opportunity to make a person. Luka, Michaela, Nina and Iva made one of them today. At the second and third activity tables we had some drawing and then shome coloured shapes with glue sticks. We chose many different coloured shapes and pasted them onto a piece of white paper. The edges of the shapes were zigzags which made them look interesting. The shapes were circles, squares, ovals, rectangles, arches, diamonds, triangles and more.
Lilian and Michaela also completed their masks and added some colourful feathers to them. We are learning to sit at activities and take our time, so that we complete them to the best of our ability. Our teachers encourage us to sit at the table until we are really finished something; especially since some of us are a big like “Jack-in-the=boxes”. We like to try to do so many things at the same time.
This structure that you can see is made out of plastic joins and newspaper rolls. Our friends in the older class made it and they brought it downstairs to our classroom so that we could play with it. It was fragile and before we knew it, it had almost collapsed and our teachers were thinking about how we could still play with it, but in a different way. Well, they came upon this amazing idea! We could pull the rolls apart and then undo them as there were small plastic tubes inside. It was amazing because we concentrated for such a long time, pulling the newspaper and undoing the entire structure.
When we had completed all of our activities, we went to the carpet and we sang our “Hello” song, “There are seven days in a week” and “What is today?” Zachary guessed that it was Friday and then we sang a little song about the sound of the letter “f”. We all know the routine when we prepare ourselves to go to the park so we took off our indoor shoes, put on our smocks and then we went to find our outdoor shoes. Hisami read us a book about construction cars in Japanese and she also showed us different animals and where they live, on the magnetic book.
This brought our week of Kings of Construction to an end. We loved making wooden constructions, snakes from lids, people from lids, masks and more. Thanks Darren and Liezel for all of your preparation. Shelley and some taiko friends are going up to Koamikura this weekend to say hello to the people whose village our school is supporting. We wish them a safe ride and a fun time playing the noisy taiko drums.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone and see you on Monday for Ohana Artists.
Love always Shelley, Hisami, Ayaka and Sayaka
