Happy birthday party Koh chan and Mika chan
And so the weather changed and it is a lot cooler today. We started off our day doing drawings on large colourful pieces of paper. We enjoyed using really big pieces of paper as it gave us plenty of room to move our arms and make big shapes. We used markers, coloured pencils and wax crayons for our drawing. We also had a table with play dough on it and rollers and cutters and we included our blue flubber at this table because they are both for sensory play. Then we had to make our preparations to welcome Koh chan’s mum, Minako and Mika chan’s mum, Mako and her dad, Frank and her baby.
They arrived for the party laden with bags of things for us to eat. When they arrived we were sitting in the library and we all sang our “Hello” song, with many of us singing all of the words so beautifully. Many of us include “My name is……………” Then we stood together holding hands and thought about the feelings we have when it is a birthday. Shelley showed us a sad face but this was not the feeling we had; then she showed us an angry face and this too was not the feeling that we had; and then Hana said: “Happy”! And this was correct. We felt happy. So we sang “When you’re happy and you know it” and we chose the actions e. g. clap, stamp, turn around, run and then we shouted ‘happy birthday’ and we whispered it too. We all sat down on the mat and our guests and our birthday friends sat together at the table. We looked at them carefully and saw that they both had something special on their heads so they didn’t need the crowns that Hisami had made for them!
Well, they decided to wear both so they ended up having their birthday with a crown each plus a happy birthday head dress and a party hat. They showed us that they were going to be three next week, by holding up three fingers. We counted in English, Japanese, French, Tagalog, Chinese and German. Then we sang our candle song “Three little candles” and blew our candles out. Our candles were really our fingers and each time, we blow a candle out, we hide one of our fingers. Koh chan’s mummy had a beautiful cake with fruit on it and three tall thin candles. Mika and Koh had to blow many times before the candles went out.
Then Lucinda told us that we needed to give them their presents and she chose to give Mika chan her gift and Vincent chose to give Koh chan his gift. They opened them and found their beautiful chain of hearts. They invited all of us to join them at the table for snack time and we had a feast of little cupcakes with a carob flavour and the second cupcake had a coconut taste. Some of us wanted to eat the dessert too. Phew! We had so much to eat and want to say a huge thank you to Minako, Mako and Frank for a beautiful party today. We are glad that we could celebrate our friends birthday at school today.
We spent some time in the MPR as it had been raining and we sang songs while Hisami played the piano. We sang “The Wheels of the bus”.
We had our Earthquake and Fire drill and had to run outside with our hands over our mouths as we pretended that there was smoke in the building. Have a great afternoon! Love always Shelley, Hisami, Liezel, Nanako, Ayaka and Goh.
