Dinosaurs Dinosaurs

This morning we had lots of help with our three group koinobori decorations. Ava, Clodia and Noa all started off using markers to decorate the fish heads and eyes. Later Tokutaro, Ava, Marc and Noa came back to help put sparkly star stickers on the bodies of the koinobori. Tomorrow we will add some final details and then make them circular so that we can hang them in the classroom. They look wonderful with the fish scale rubbings we did last week.Tokutaro decided he wanted to try the wooden block and shape cards activity on the table and found a great picture of a ‘duck’ and a ‘dragon’ which really looked like a dinosaur. He did really well matching the shapes to the card and looked so pleased with himself at the end. DSCF6242Blue decorated his secret ‘Mother’s Day’ gift using lots of jewels and sparkly stars. For this he chose which decorations he wanted first and then carefully glued them on. He even wrote his name on the back all by himself using a sparkly pen. Olivia set up her own imaginative play on the fake grass with the dinosaurs and told us all about which dinosaur was the mummy, daddy etc. Ethan and Ryan meanwhile liked the look of the ‘Thomas’ puzzle on the small table and worked together to complete the 30 piece puzzle in a few minutes.DSCF6255 Ayaka saw that many of the children were looking at an interesting book in the library titled ‘A Bad Case of Stripes’ about a young girl whose appearance changes from stripes to stars to polka dots etc. and eventually finds a cure from a lady with Lima beans. After snack time we headed for Amishiro park as we were a bit worried about our flowers not having enough water to drink over the long weekend. When we arrived the flowers looked wonderful and were all in full bloom. We gave them a good watering anyway, and had fun trying to carry buckets of water all the way across the park without spilling them. Blue tied the standing and twisting frame in the park and was getting some really good exercise. We took along our water bottles too as it was very warm in the sunshine and made sure we had enough to drink. In circle time we looked at a new book which also has a multi-piece model inside called ‘Uncover T-Rex, Taker a 3D look inside a T-Rex’. The children are very interested in this as it has many pieces and asks a question on each page such as ‘What were the T-Rex’s small arms for”? DSCF6268When we did an impersonation of a T-Rex we found that we couldn’t reach our mouths with such small arms. Ava then suggested that perhaps they used their large legs instead to bring food to their mouths. We gave it a try too but it wasn’t easy. The book also told us that Tyrannosaurus Rex means ‘Terrible Lizard’. We pulled out a small lizard toy from the box and looked carefully at the skin and tried to match it with some colored paper we have. We found that it didn’t match the feathers paper like a peacock, the fur like a lion, the fur like a tiger, the fur like a giraffe or the fur of a zebra. The nearest seemed to be the snake skin which had a scaly surface. We are looking forward to the Taiko performance tomorrow and will leave the school at around 10:00 a.m. Please remember to bring along your bandana or a handkerchief/ scarf to tie back your child’s hair. Have a great afternoon, All our Love, Darren and AyakaAyaka read to them.
